Seems a decent price, usb points are a big plus for me
just a shame it not the 2m version

From comments below and my own research, it would appear that the USB current output is limited to 500mA, which isn't enough to charge some smartphones and tablets. I'd advise checking this if necessary before purchasing to save yourself some potential hassle!

From comments below (and above) as a test - if your device charges from a usb1/2 port on pc then it 'should' charge from this, yes it may be slower but should charge (like my HTC phone does)
-Roderz

Yes it also has surge protection,,,,,
Specs from page....

Unlimited warranty cover in the event of equipment damage by an electrical surge/spike.

500ma makes this next to useless for most USB charging devices that use mains>USB chargers - if you were to plug an iPad into this I would guess the USB circuits would go pop.
iPhone & iPad users beware; if you have iOS 6 and above the USB ports DO NOT WORK, you will need to still use the standard charging socket!

I was worried being directly plugged it would be too powerful or something. I am scared of electric things lol.

Can you use this charger in the car? I have the Can charger in the car but its only for 3 pin plugs, no usb.
Sounds like you should be fine (i.e. no damage) with any phone made after the 2007, linked bellow.

Very good deal that may not be getting heat it deserves.

looks a bit like a toaster!
got one this morning - very nice and compact
It not's going to damage your devices, but will takes ages to charge. If you can't charge your device off your laptop USB, it won't work for this either: check your current phone/tablet/whatever charger and read the power rating (measured in W) or multiply the current and voltage ratings. If it's 10W just give up, if it's 5W it will charge but as slowly as plugging it into a computer USB port (unless you have those special high powered USB ports)
Good price. I have the 6 socket version, and the only downside I find is that some adaptors stand proud of the base depending which way the pins face.

Be careful. USB1/2/3 - the devices negotiate with the charger or computer for how much current to draw. The cheaper or older devices wont know how to handle the more current sucking devices - which is fine. Which is not fine, is when the device melts itself because it gave out too much charge. This happened to me on one device, left overnight. 1-2A is a lot of energy which unless sufficiently engineered, can be very damaging.

These devices look good, but I have yet to personally try them (not that I am authority, just an eager consumer).

Just to throw something else into the mix.....
USB cables do vary in quality,
I have some cables that will not work with my printer or scanner (both have their own psu's) but work with everything else, so best to stick will original manu's cables or good quality alternatives - I found belkin to be faultless
HTH
purchased equivalent surge protected 6way from screwfix for about 12 pounds or so...
Good deal, heat added

got one reserved thanks
I've used one of these for a few months since the last Argos deal on them. It's well-made proper kit and pretty useful for the price.

But to support the views above: the lights are unnecessarily bright (but look quite classy in a way), you do need decent USB charging cables - especially for Apple devices, and yes they do look like a mini-sized posh toaster!

Good buy at this money.

doubles up as a nightlight, so ok for me!
They are 8.99 at ARGOS amazon have them just below 16 quid

No, for higher draw devices like the Ipad and other tablets they will not charge at all when connected to low current USB outputs like this one. Some of the more powerful smartphones may still charge with a low current USB port but it will be painfully slow. For that reason I wouldn't buy one of these units.

Can anyone confirm whether this would work with an iPhone/iPod 5? I think this post is referring to what seems to be an issue with the iOS 6 only allowing devices to be charged from 1a ports, but I'm not sure, so would appreciate some advice.
Picked up one of these last year. Any Nokia N8 owners should be advised that the USB output is insufficient. It does charge my wife's HTC Wildfire S however.

LOL, they saw YOU coming! But honestly, PC World? Why would anyone ever shop there?

Back on topic, 4 gang extension lead £3.87 from Amazon, USB adaptors £2.00 each from Amazon so how is this a good deal? Buy your components separately for less money and increased flexibility.
