4 x 195/50/15 R15 82V XL Toyo Proxes TR-1 Tyres For £100.75 (using code) @ Demon Tweeks / Ebay

£25 each for a brand new tyre works out cheaper than budgets

The Toyo Proxes TR1 is the follow-up to the ever popular T1-R tyre. Like its predecessor, this is a high performance road tyre offering outstanding grip and handling. Toyo have significantly improved wet handling on grip on the newer tyre though. The new tread pattern is designed to clear standing water out of the way and drain much more efficiently. This gives it vastly enhanced all-weather capability.

The Toyo Proxes TR1 is designed with a firmer sidewall and tread pattern that deforms less under cornering for better grip and handling, even on heavier cars.

updated, ive had these tyres before and they were like cheese, didnt last long! Shocking in the wet, which is what I would/look for get being in Britain, went with Dunlops instead although twice the price.

You had the correct link first time!

I was saying the top review is for the T1R which is the old tyre.
I had a rant on the other thread about Toto's naming of one being 'TR1' and the other 'T1R' and people confusing the two.

+1 I got about 8k miles on my front tyres on a 2L diesel car last time I got these. Good while they lasted, but definitely made of Wensleydale.

T1R or TR1?

Pretty sure it was the TR1 tyres. It was on offer at National Autocare at the time. Whats the difference?

TR1 are more like a midrange traditional tyre. If you have done 8k miles and they were only introduced in Feb 2019 you would have only recently taken them off.
The old T1R were great warm weather summer tyres, but we're pretty poor in the winter.

I bought tyres in Feb 2019 (I used birthday money for them!) and sold car in Sept 2019 (shortly after replacing fronts for MOT), so it fits the timeline. It was the 17" ones I had, but I am assuming they have the same tread and compound.

Slightly less deeper ( low profile). If your car isn't too low these will fit and work fine. Although ride may not be as good.
Make sure load rating is same as old ones.

You can get 4x Uniroyal Rainsport 5 in the same size for just £30 more with the code.. they are a FAR better tyre!!

True, but I mean really that remark is so old now I forgot we are 15 and need to look like we are funny on a tyre deal forum. Anyway you got a laugh from 3 people so maybe they think you are the next Lee Nelson

Tyre deal forum? Perhaps you should concentrate your efforts on where you're posting your Victor Meldrew-esque diatribes before you hit that post button. Just a thought.

I replaced 195 55 with 195 50 purely on cost basis. The side wall is 5mm thinner, car looks ok but tyres dont fill the arches as well
Edited by: "Ant_Owen" 28th Feb
Out of interest (and perhaps a little stupid), when these tyres arrive do you just contact a local tyre garage to fit them? Surely they make a cut on the actual cost of the tyre you buy from them, so I'd imagine they wouldn't be too enamored if you rolled up with your own tyres?

Maybe I'm completely wrong and it's a done thing these days

Slightly harsher ride and your tyres will look a little more lost in the arches.

Your speedo will also be slightly out and the acceleration will change slightly (can't remember if better or worse).

Was a very popular switch back in my 306 days due to the price difference. Didn't bother this time on my MR2 (stuck with the 'proper' 185/55/15 fronts)

10mm, 55% of the tyre width Vs 50%

The main impact is on rolling radius, so you go less distance for one rotation of the tyre. So your Speedo will over read and the odometer will increase faster. I.e. the car will say more miles than its actually done
