I have a 42" led 3d celcus and it's a brilliant tv and never had a problem, don't let the name put you off.

seems decent, will have to pop in to have a look at it - wondering if it is suitable for gaming

also i saw an offer next to it saying you can get an xbox 360 250gb for 129.99 if purchased with the tv.

from website, though i can't find any cashback deals or vouchers so you may as well buy the TV in-store. price for a new xbox 360 doesn't seem great either.

really tempted by this as what little i've found online seems to regard celcus screens in a positive light - a 50" would be a bit big for my room and while this lacks features and is stingy with connections it's damned cheap - as far as i'm aware nothing above 32" can be had at this price.

This has been £199 in my local for ages. It's a good price though.

good deal, I've got the celcus 42" 3d LCD, its a rebranded LG (confirmed by an LG technician) I wouldn't be surprised if this was another rebrand!

groceries shopping, probs wont work.

Anyone actually bought one of these and can share their early opinions ? Box states full 1080p and 10ms response time and the telly itself looks nice but I've not seen one in use.

I got one this afternoon to replace a cheap Orion 32" from 2007 (yeah that was a bargain at the time, £299!). First impressions are that it's cheap but well made, the backlight is even and blacks are very black thanks to it being LED. The picture is fine, response seems fine and once changed away from the factory settings (sharpness is too high out of the box) it is perfectly watchable. Menus are fine, remind me a little of a freeview box. My one real criticism is the sound, its a bit tinny even with the EQ set to full bass, so probably needs a soundbar or surround sound to fix that. All in all, surpasses my expectations for a £200 TV.

cheers jeeves, think i have convinced myself to buy one as an occasional front-room telly when entertaining as there is nothing close to this size for the price elsewhere.

Here you go, matching brand!

We had one of these for the boys XBOX 360 in his room, it worked fine and never any issues with it only replaced it as we got a new one for the lounge, and gave him the one from the lounge. Gave this away and it is still working fine at the new home.

Only bad thing it is a deep back TV so if wall mounting will stand off the wall a bit unlike Samsung that are about a inch thick.

Purchased today. Initially overscanning, but set picture mode to 'full' and it's fine. Great 1080p LED with deep blacks for this price. Had to turn off sharpening for computer use, otherwise perfect.

Bargain!

Hi,

what are the colour settings like? I can only see a manual on their site for a different TV (LED40189FHDCNTD)
http://celcustv.co.uk/sites/default/files/product_downloads/celcus_led40189fhdcntd_manual.pdf
but that has options like RGB, Colour Shift, Skin Tone etc.

I was wondering if this one is anyway similar. I know the other budget LED I tried only had Brightness/Contrast/Colour & Backlight (eco mode etc)

thanks
J

picked mine up last night. It's only been on <5 mins so far so not much help there.

As far as I can remember, the model for this manual is very similar to mine, and I did see that those features mentioned are present in the this TV. Can't check as I am not at home, but I definitely remember the RGB, Colour Shift, and Skin Tone options when I was flicking through the menus.

I should probably mention that the image features and menus in this manual are what is very similar to the TV on offer, but thing like number of HDMI ports and the number of supported file types over USB are different- it is definitely not the same TV.

great thanks for that.

TV PICTURE: great at this price. Vibrant and even SD channels from Virgin VBox looked good

Media Browser: odd scaling and colour output on images. I'm not sure the media browser actually shows a 1920x1080 picture properly.

PC over HDMI: had some very strange results with this... don't know if it was my HDMI cables. TV seems to overscan. I'd expected a 1920x1080 image viewed at 16:9 would display right. but generally had to set display size to "FULL" on the TV. Under "Game" mode which seemed like it would be better for picture in PC mode, the image was scaled and no option to change it. That meant using Dynamic/Natural/Cinema etc. On calibration images colours were leaking a bit from single-pixel colour lines, with some lines showing "dancing" noise. This could be reduced by turning "Noise Reduction" up. I guess this is something to do with the HDMI signal. It's not like using HDMI on a PC Monitor. (this was resolved by using VGA input instead and the lines displayed crisply).

PC over VGA: Initially i was getting odd errors like "No signal through PC" and yet it showed half my extended desktop (but only half). But after a reboot of PC & TV, it displayed properly (could have been a PC issue). PC screen position also needs to be "Autopositioned" from the settings menu. Unfortunately, what I did notice though was everytime i change from eg HDMI1 to VGA input source, the PC screen needed repositioning. (I think this may be to do with the overscaling on the TV... again it's not really designed as a monitor in the end)

SOUND:: awful! (but expected). It sounds like there's a tin-can speaker strapped to the back. Even the 5-band EQ only makes it barely listenable. So I'm using a 2.1 (currently through headphone socket, but note the SPDIF output likely would mean you'll need to buy an Optical converter for the more common TOSLINK optical found on surround systems etc)

VERDICT: for £200 (and if you're using it as a spare tv rather than your main TV)... if the TV lasts a few years, then it's good for viewing TV content (but with an extra 2.1 or Soundbar etc). but I think PC really needs to go over VGA

tempted to spend a little extra on a better one, but this was just meant to be a cheap bedroom TV to replace a CRT box, not a fancy HDTV for general use,

will post photos shortly

(All screens taken with iPhone 5 camera)

PC over HDMI appears scaled ie text is clearly not at correct ratio (Game mode i think, no option to change scaling). Dynamic mode allowed setting to FULL though, fixing this as mentioned above.

PC over VGA : note this is not actual a photo of a PC screen, but a screenshot of a PC screen.. seems mainly ok
http://i.share.pho.to/a29b4449_o.jpeg

PC over VGA: again seems ok, but be sure to switch your refresh rate as originally defaults to about 29 (not 60)

PC over HDMI - some green pixels (2nd para) of this jpg appeared white
http://i.share.pho.to/b819d92a_l.jpeg

Media browser/USB Again some pixels of this JPG appear white in the media browser version
http://i.share.pho.to/2ef8a67e_o.jpeg

Raspberry Pi over HDMI - main OS looked ok.. but didn't test any calibration images on it

Hi guys i bought a celcus tv from sainsburys 4 or 5 years ago. No complaints, great picture quality. Was the best deal for a tv at the time. Have never regretted buying it. Looking for another for my spare room right now. I hope i have helped

Picked this TV up for £179 in sainsburys today - bargain no faults as yet.

[update] i was streaming some media to it and there's a noticeable bit of ghosting (trails) during fast movement in the dark. I guess that's down to the 50hz refresh rate (although it might be to do with the media box, I'm not sure, I'd have to check on a similar TV program).

normally I don't notice it but I guess it was because it was quite a dark scene on the background.

It might be worth taking into consideration. Like I said I wanted this as a cheap bedroom TV so I'm not too bothered, but I wouldn't use it as a main TV.

Just bought 32" reduced in Sainsburys to £120 -£40 double nectar voucher -£3 shop voucher =£77. Beat that! Celcus Sound Bar reduced to £30 - FREE with double nectar!
