Bought one delivery Thursday

Very basic tv, got one of Amazon for 250 early this year. Heads up sounds poor will need a good sound bar. Blacks aren't a true black and colours can be very dull

I went instore to have a good poke around of this JVC set - a relative was interested and asked me to take a look at it.

I wanted to see how it differed from the 'real' JVCs of yesteryear.

My honest opinion - it felt like a toy. Lightweight & plasticky. Not that well built. Even a cheap TV should look OK

But if a 40" is what you want for as little as possible, then go for it.

My thoughts exactly, mine got sent back after 2 days. And went back to my trusty 10 year old Samsung

Exactly. I have inflicted cheap new TVs for the kids bedrooms & I enjoy my 8 year old Samsung downstairs.

Waiting on a good LG/Sony/Samsung smart wifi TV for our bedroom but I can wait a long time for that.

Out of interest, how dire was the picture> I'm liking the sound of a 40 incher at this price but just want to make sure it's also watchable. Not particularly bothered by the build quality or lack of smarts.

Have read a few reviews of this (assuming it's the 40c550). It was released in July 2013 so is pretty old now and its sound is consistently cited as being very poor (and it has no input for a sound bar). Other comments say the picture is ok except for the black.

It's a basic TV for a low price.

Thanks op. This would make an okay gaming monitor, for console or PC. It is 1080P at 40". Output sound to external speakers. Sorted.

Not a bad TV for the bedroom but those speakers... My god they are so bad that they may as well have not included them and sold a mute TV.

Its subjective really. I personally wouldn't buy it and advised as much to my relative.

People that rave about cheap TVs usually say they are comparable to high end sets but I disagree.

You need to pop down to see it in store to decide

Do JVC actually make these TVs?

£349 now. I heard inflation was on the rise but this is ridiculous

Nope, this is another made by Vestel in Turkey, Vestel have the naming rights to a LOT of these sorts of brands now, Akai, JVC, Techwood etc etc....
