Sweet and creamy ingredient, a favourite in Thai cooking. 60% coconut.

Not a brand I have heard of but if its any where nearly as good as Lidl's VitAsia brand, it'll be yummy!

In my opion Aldi is no cheaper than the likes of ASDA if you get own brand cheap brand stuff as ALDI does not stock branded stuff, unlike NETTO which stock branded stuff.

ASDA's coconut milk is only 54p and you can get everything you need under one roof, there are just some products which are not the not the same therefore you have to go to the ASDA or somewhere to purchase the branded stuff you need.

I cant see the point of ALDI when supermarkets all do own brand cheaper, just my opion

Long live Aldi , Lidl and Netto, it is because of them that put a restraint on the supermarket collective excesses.

Fair enough, but I don't like shopping in our ASDA, it's always full and every isle is like a scrum! Also, this is 7p a tin cheaper than there and at the rate I use Coconut milk, that makes it worth my while.

Aldi seem to be doing just fine without you so they must be getting something right. Maybe you should give it try? You are correct when you say that their range is limited, but what they do have is generally good quality at excellent prices. I used to share your view but if you take the time to get to know their products it pays off. I think their real weakness is fresh fruit and veg - Lidl is better for that.

Unusual way of making a point in an argument!... let me see, this is 15% dearer in Asda, but Asda is cheaper? :?

No surprise that you can't see the point of Aldi then! :whistling:

Damn good price for coconut milk, Sainsburys, Tescos etc seem to be well over the £1.

If youve got a big tesco youll likely find 'pride' ccconut milk for 59p a can in the 'tast the world' isle...........or for about £1.49 you can buy a similar product from the normal curry shelf!!

nice find.
but its much cheaper to buy a pack of coconut milk powder.
]http//ww…tml

a 350g pack lasts for a few months, tastes better too.

Just paid £1.20 in morrisons and 75p in an asian food shop

You have to check the water content with coconut milk, the cheap ones often have less coconut and more water, but the Lidl ones are fine at 80% while some like the light version from blue dragon has only 25% coconut

never used coconut milk...sounds good....what do you all do with it?

I've used it when making rice n' peas to go with (my poor rendition of) jerk chicken, but it's also used in lots of Thai dishes.

will have alook tomorrow and get some thanks

Been there my friend, i worked nights whilst in a house share.
Sat in the lounge drinking beer whilst the others were getting ready for work, eating breakfast....good times.

Really good stuff for Thai curries etc but remember that it has a ridiculously high calorific content. The level of fat is high as well although it's not the worst type.

Asda has coconut milk for around 54p but 2 for 90 something. All the time.

Thanks Blootoon, you put that across a lot more eloquently than me. The Tesco cheapie, "Island Sun" is like water compared to the lidl ones. I bought 4 about a year ago and 3 are still in my cupboard!

If you make any sort of cury, add it to it to sweeten it up and calm down the spices. It also adds a creamy texture. I make a lot of Thai curries this is a big part of any SE Asian dish.

Sorry Mummy! It startxs Thursday! I will edit the title as maybe thats not clear.

i use in smoothies ..gives a nice twist...yummmmmm..!!

I use them with thai curry pastes, so easy to cook up. I usually buy the sharwood pots because I haven't found anywhere near me that does big tubs of the authentic stuff.

Sainsburys and Tescos in my area both do the Mae Ploy stuff which is EXCELLENT!

Trouble is no-one seems to do the Palm Sugar anymore! HELP ANYONE????

Not just for Thai cooking folks ....
They cook fish in it in the Philippines

Just picked up a tray of 12 - voted hot

I didn't realise they regularly have it at that price - the only problem is that Asda Peterborough is quite possibly the worst supermarket around with narrow aisles and families using it as a day out for the kids.
