oh dear me yes

where do you get other software to install

some people recommend simplesatnav but they charge for their services.
i think ipmart-forum.com/for…382 is a good source of free information.

Anyone know how this would comapre to a TomTOm ONE XL in terms of recalculating your route when you go off course? I hear TomTom ONE is only 266 Mhz - I basically find when driving in central London it can't calcuate the routes fast enough in a moving car, by the time it's gotten a route you've moved on and it's constantly trying to catch up. Sometimes I actually have to pull over and wait for the TomTom to finsih it's route planning.

cheaper to get a 4.3 one from ebuyer they had it at £40 at one point

Cheapest on Ebuyer is £55 for 3.5"

Just a word of advice...

My first sat-nav was a 3.5" jobbie from EBuyer. It was basic and worked but I wanted something better. I saw a 4.3" Magellan on sale in Sainsburys so I snapped it up.

However there was a problem. The 4.3" unit is physically bigger & heavier and it had a pronounced tendency to sympathically vibrate at certain engine speed. This was with the sat-nav 'suckered' to the windscreen an all of the connections tightened up, The problem was worse at low-ish revs. You could still see the sat-nav and it still worked but the vibration used to irritate the hell out of me.

My third sat-nav was a 3.5" Blaupunkt and this didn't vibrate.

If I could still remember my A-level Physics, I could probably explain this in terms of increased moments of force but that was 30 years ago so I can't!

Finally, if you have an Android phone, why not try Google Navigate. It's free and it seems to work ok.

512mb RAM seems enormeous! If it's true, this is a great unit. (an average unit has 64mb or 128mb memory).
This should really run everything quite fast (especially Navigon, which I believe is the best sat nav at the moment, although many like iGO Primo).

This comment is a bit unfair. I have used members advice on simplesatnav.co.uk forum and it is completely free and people are generally very helpful. They ask for a donation only if you want to download stuff (which is fair enough, IMO, they need to cover their bandwidth).

If you are thinking of buying this View Quest sat nav, I recommend go to the forum and read about installing other satnavs first. If you know hoe to install Windows or programs on your own computer, you probably find it quite easy to install other navigators on the View Quest.

i agree simplesatnav very helpful they ask for a donation only if you wish to download stuff and this covers how ever many things you download, and you get to choose how much you donate! very helpful people as well, turned me into a sat nav addict, trying all the different ones

dunno if edited or you misread - its internal memory/storage is 512mb not the RAM (unless the RAM is also 512mb from another source i dunno about)

What I'm saying is that with most satnavs the internal memory/storage is about 64mb or 128mb. This one quotes 512mb and if that is true, has more than any other satnav I know of. (I am not talking about the external card memory, which is where the maps run from).

There is a line in the description saying that the unit works also in tunnels, and I wonder if a large amount of route data is stored in internal memory. This would also help to prevent delays when recalculations are made. I am quite interested to find out more about this unit.

hmm ok wasn't sure as you did state RAM above.
i assumed that a memory card was optional for extra maps etc and that maps were run from that 512mb as standard with the ability to run off cards also (maybe with fiddling about) which would tell you nothing really but then i have never had this type.
i assumed the 512mb was akin to hard drive space and RAM equivalent unlisted
(you said 512mb was highest you know about but my non CE one has 2gb internal.)

misco states the internal memory as 2mb but then thats the only place thats different i think.

no idea how it would 'work' in tunnels - its not going to get a satellite signal i dont think so more likely its just guessing on based on speed and time along it which wouldn't take up much power.
how it knows its in a tunnel and not just lost a signal i have no idea unless they are part of the map and its just predicting as i guessed?

Me too. Asking for a donation to help with server costs if you download isn't unreasonable.

How do you arrive @ £49.95.?. Tried codes mentioned. None work.

Also i'm not saying charging £5 is unreasonable, just saying that ipmart has a downloads sections which is free. Anyway i may donate myself as it does save a lot of trouble finding the programs yourself.

I have a Navigo widescreen which I got from Ebuyer in 2008. It's running Tomtom Navcore 7.9 and v850.2820 maps. I paid £69.99 for it back then and it's still going strong after a lot of use. It wasn't easy to get TT going but once it's done it's only a matter of updating the maps now and then when I can be bothered lol.

Oh yeah and it plays MP3's, avi's, Ebook and photos, not that I use it for that though but I have tried it in the past and it worked ok.

how did you manage to get navcore working? could you point me in the right direction please
thanks

I had a Nav...work for 3 months...nothing but problems, got ebuyer to return got a tom tom....they are worth every penny....The Nav are great if you dont have the dosh...gonna vote hot on price, not on overall quality of the product....that includes the software...

so it sounds like its not worth buying then?

software can be changed. I'm going to install Tomtom 7 as soon as i get this.

hi can i have the website/files for tom tom 7

Just ordered this myself thanks for the post.

First time sat nav user here, which sat nav software would you most reccomend for use with this unit? TomTom or other?

Original Poster

got mine today, cant quite figure out how to get TT on it.

Its very tricky as its not running WinCe5 as stated but WinCe6.

There is a new guide out but that did not work for me so will keep looking, if not its going back under false advertising

Has anyone managed to get tomtom on this at all?

Original Poster

Try using dodobird, didnt work for me but has worked for someone else

got mine today for a friend at work, i have a navigo with tomtom on and all i did was connect the view quest to my pc cut the maps folder and the satnav folder and copyed the two folders from my navigo onto it and it works!! well kinda for some reason when i turn it on from a full turn off i have to re-enable the gps device but it takes like 2 seconds so not the end of the world!! but am sure i will figure it out!! so it does work well !!

"Card slot Micro SD card slot, max 2gb."
