And your point is? If it is not working or not fit for purpose, just send it back, Ebuyer are under legal obligation to repair, send you a new one or refund your monnies.... I don't care about the name as long as it works.

The comments in the above threads are complete nonsense. I am no friend of ebuyer but I wish people would do some research before they put up comments like that (and this applies also people who believe any rubish published on the net, btw).

Foehn & Hirsch is in fact a German company who has taken over the bunkrupt firm which distributed the Navigon nav sat (now also called Foehn & Hirsch). Ebuyer just happen to deal with this company more than other British sellers. (You can buy the Foehn & Hirsch sat nav in WHSmith, for instance).

So, please don't put someone down on rumours, raefil.

Agree with that - I can't get snobby where things like this are concerned :santa:

I like eBuyer and have bought computing components from them for yonks (typing this on a PC made with many of them), but do think people spending a lot of money on a large TV should look at global brands.

I think you'll find it harder to get Freeview firmware updates as necessary as Freeview develops with the national digital rollout and HD is introduced (eg my Humax PVR needed a firmware update to cope this month!), and the 3yr warranty seems rather vague - but then I'm lucky enough to live in range of a John Lewis & a Richer Sounds to get price matching etc. That said if you are essentially just using it as a 42" HD display panel fed via HDMI from other (quality) sources you may consider it good value

You will note, or maybe not, I posted a link and told people to make their own mind up. I made no further comment. Pity some people let their inner aggression out in internet forums. FWIW I actually voted hot because I actually think for a full HD tv its a pretty good price.

I agree with raefil, he has simply provided a link for people to make their own judgement and did not give his point of view, so what's all the fuss about??

Anyway, my own personal experience with this particular brand has been appalling (already posted this on another F&H HUKD post). Bought 2 x 19" LCD/DVD combo TV, 1 dead on arrival and the other followed the day after (both cannot power on). Contacted eBuyer, and they said it must be repaired and cannot be a straight replacement even though it's less than 1 week old.

To cut story short, they returned my repaired TV within 1 1/2 week (pick up and return), 1 of which was returned without the built in DVD player, the other failed to power on again.

I had demanded new TVs instead of a repair, which they did, but one of the new replacement had intermittent sound problem from playing DVDs, also the remote control doesn't control the DVD player, the other was OK. In the end, I have just asked them to refund me for the full amount.

Friend also bought 2 (sold 1 on eBay), although his lasted slightly longer (1 month), both his and the eBay buyer also reported similar problem (no power) after a short period. He has got refund for 1 and not sure what happened to the eBay one.

I have posted my review on eBuyer for this particular TV (19" LCD/DVD combo), obviously not a nice review, and they haven't even published it.

In my view, if this is your spare TV that you can live without while it goes in for repair, then yeah, price is not bad. For me, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. (Not voted).

Might be worth clicking on "go to deal" link and checking out the comments that people have left (mainly people who've bought the LCD TV). Don't worry these comments are genuine as I've posted positive / negative comments on other products before. Just gives you a good idea of what to expect if you've not bought a under-rated brand like Foehn & Hirsch before.

Or you can click on this link and it'll take you straight there:

These TVs will probably come from different manufacturers, so i wouldn't necessarily compare a 19" set with a 42". F&H MP4 players for instance feature some models made by Teclast, a very good Chinese manufacturer, others I couldn't tell you, but I wouldn't lump them all together.

In my opinion, you should not distribute rubbish links like that. My comments are not aggressive, just factual.

To the comments above about problems with service:
I am not certain but it is probably true that F&H, like most other brands, uses contract services to deal with their warranty repairs. You can be unlucky and have to deal with a bad apple, but the same couls happen if you buy a Sony or Panny, because they may use the same service.

I see your point, but I was not referring to the service, but rather the quality of the product. Having 3 dud "new" TVs to break down within a week? This really brings questionable quality control about their TV, don't you think?

Anyone know if this tv would be any good for playing games on the xbox 360 that require a 60hz refresh rate, like Forza 3??

Thanks

Yes I agree. The tvs are probably sourced from different suppliers and you could have had a bad bunch. This is the problem with cheap stuff, you can be lucly or unlucky. You just have to swopp until you get a better one

This is less likely with a more expansive brand.

And quite who gave you the authority to judge whether other peoples views are valid or not?. That particular site is a mine of information for any consumer. Just like peoples opinions on here they are just that, "peoples opinions." They may be rubbish, they may be valid, I have my own opinion which may or not agree with what people say on that site but I certainly wouldnt be so arrogant as to ever describe others views as "rubbish."

This TV may be an excellent one, it might be a bag of do do, I havent a clue but I think its fair that anyone wanting to purchase it might be able to look into every detail before they go ahead.

now £414. looks a good deal..
