49" is your bedroom telly? i tried to buy the 40" version for £189 earlier today, but was out of stock when i added it to my basket. annoying.
Where's the other inch gone?
In B4: Blaupunkt = badge engineering by Slovakian-based UMC who knock out budget / supermarket-grade TVs with various brand badges. Typically offer a lot of TV for not a lot of cash.
View this model's user guide in any browser here and in typical budget fashion, the pics and model number quoted do not match (doc title is 49/235Z as per deal but face page of manual quotes 49/435Z with incorrect image showing central-stand, whereas further images correctly show two feet at extremities of TV base, and spec page correctly quotes 235Z).
Why don't people read anymore in the bedroom?

Was clearing out some boxes and found a 2006 Comet brochure and seen 32" Tvs that are now Sub £200 are now were £1000+ back then! How times change!
Why buy this when you can get Sharp 50" tv led and full he £299 Argos or £329 tesco
Good price.... I've got the 40 inch version . great picture for the money and slim bezel

Sound is OK for the bedroom! Nothing bassy but not as bad as many people make out. I'd buy it again :-)
Huge discount.
Doesnt support dolby sound going by the manual..... I returned a umc tv to tesco as I wouldnt support anything with dolby sound eg trying to play a film through xbox and a video from usb with dolby. Contacted UMC who said "as it says in the manual this tv does not support dolby audio you need to turn the dolby audio track off in the dvd menu".... but thats quite hard when theres no option to turn it off and nearly every film uses dolby audio.....

The older blaupunk supports dolby..
Just hope its better than the £299 I recently paid for a new panasonic tv from tesco which when unboxed turned out to be either a damaged return or damaged ex display as it was scratched and parts were missing it can only have been done deliberately probably by a disgruntled employee who had just thrown it into a box yet tesco refused to post my comments on their feedback page how strange no wonder tesco are in the doghouse.

The £299 Sharp LC-50CFE5101K sold by Argos is made by UMC, same as this Blaupunkt. Not convinced an additional 10%+ price is worth the 4% increase in screen area, but some may prefer the badge that UMC stick on the front, and are OK with sacrificing the legacy SCART socket.
I think these cheap screens get a lot of hate, unfairly. Bought a 40" blaupunkt a few weeks ago and I'm actually impressed with it. It's not smart, but connected to a PS4 it is. The speakers are crap, but anyone with any consideration for decent audio knows the only way is to have an amp and speakers.

For a large panel, you can't go wrong.
Dang it I just bought the 40" for 189

I bought this in the black Friday sales last year, it was 50 '' back then mind so not sure where other inch has gone.. cracking TV, serves me well, need a sound bar tho as typically speakers are not the best with it being such a thin unit..
Sorry if this is a dozy question, but can this TV be fixed onto the wall ?

EDIT

Just seen that you can

The Sharp 32 incher that sold for £120 on Argos and became really hot here is also made by UMC.

Yeah, but the mount points look like they're on the lower (fat) half of the screen. So if you already have a mounting plate/holes drilled, it might end up quite high on the wall?

This really shouldn't be mounted on anyone's wall - that was something that (wealthy-ish) people could do when slim TV's were a very expensive novelty/luxury, it really doesn't work for £180 Blaupunkts, trust me.

All well and good until the screen fails, mine did after 6 months of moderate use
Just wait till Black Friday and people will be going crazy fighting over these

Fortunately it works fine when wall-mounted cos it's £269 not £180.

That's okay then - your room will look just like one of those on 'MTV Cribs'

Good deal and a good price. I seem to remember Tesco doing free guarantees last Christmas, though I'm not sure if they included the budget end of their range.

well I've had mine nearly 12 months with high use and the screen works perfectly. 5 year warrantee if you kept the box anyway, sounds like some silly chap didn't. ...

UMC offering a 5 year warranty? no they don't, it's 12 months standard and 6 months when you register online, all warranty claims need the original box

The only place you'll get 5 years is John Lewis or when Tesco offerd it for a short period 30/10/14 - 21/1/15 tesco.com/dir…ot4

Reviving this to say these are still available - bought one from my local Tesco after they couldn't get a 40 inch Technika in on time.

It's not bad at all! Especially considering the price, honestly. The picture is nice on HD TV but you can see its issues a little when playing games etc. Sound quality's alright, but I picked up a £99 Sony soundbar/subwoofer combo from the same Tesco. Those two together look and sound bloody exquisite.

For those moving up from a smaller TV though, you might honestly be surprised by the sheer size! Picture of it here sat on my desk (only just!)
