Have not dared watched this for 10 years, the face appears everywhere and scares me sh1tless. However when it's this hot, i was "compelled" to buy. This film has got to have one of the best (and creepiest) audio composition i've ever heard. The part where the priest pulls up to the house is fingers moving over wineglass rims and it is terribly eerie. Damn you poster

The Exorcist is a brilliant film. (saw it on the big screen back in the 90's). Although a little disturbing I wouldn't say it's 'scary' though oO

True Romance is an underrated classic IMHO. So many great scenes (eg Hopper & Walken) and comedic moments (eg the lift scene)

Tried that last year. Got sweaty palms and felt naseous. It's still the only film I can't watch through to the end.

Serves me right for first watching it when I was 11. I'm scarred for life...

The Exorcist now price matched on Amazon if you prefer

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B003IHVKRY/****

I'm sure somebody will raise a new post but I would rather just add it as comment to this one.

Waiting for Amazon to price match The Matrix. If not then Play it is.

Wow is it really that scary? Obviously I'm aware of it but I've never seen it. I assumed much scarier things would have come out since?

Would First Blood be worth having on BR? I seem to remember is was pretty poor quality in the first place, or have they digitally remastered it?

The Exorcist is on TV tonight itv4

Blu-ray Review

MOVIE
The Movie Itself is a true classic. The film is based on the book “First Blood” by David Morrell. The story is that of a former Green Beret, Vietnam war veteran “John Rambo” (played by Sylvester Stallone). After finding out he’s the last surviving member of his unit in Vietnam he makes his way to the small town of Hope, WA. He’s immediately greeted (in a very unfriendly fashion) by the local Sheriff “Will Teasle” (played by Brian Dennehy) and basically told his type is not welcome in this town. The Sheriff drives him to the edge of town and tries to send him the other direction. “Rambo” doesn’t react the way “Teasle” wants him to. He walks right back into town and this obviously leads to the Sheriff arresting him on really no charges at all. This film tells the story of how we train these young men (and now women) to be killing machines for our military yet we bring them home and they cannot adjust or fit in. Especially with people spitting on them and calling them “baby killers” as “John Rambo” himself says in the film.

It’s obvious that “Rambo” is not going to take this sitting down and/or co-operate with the law enforcement. He soon escapes the jail in quiet a fiasco and begins to start a one man war against an entire city’s law enforcement. This is the action film that really started it all and I’m not talking about it’s sequels. Eventually in the showdown “Rambo’s” superior officer “Col. Samuel Trautman” (played by Richard Crenna) shows up and tries to talk him through things. Overall this film is really sad in ways but it’s something you cannot ignore and like I said is truly a classic film.

VIDEO
Video Quality on this release is in 1080p AVC MPEG-4 on a 25 gigabyte Blu-ray Disc. First off this film is a 1982 release, it’s almost as old as me and it absolutely looks amazing! Wish I could say the same for myself but that’s another story. This video transfer of this film offers an awesome visual experience that I had never seen of this classic. I’m truly amazed how they have took this old of material and made it look this good in High Def. I don’t know what more to tell you than this will blow your mind. That’s being completely honest with you. I wish more transfers from this time period were this good in High Def.

AUDIO
Audio Quality on this release is in DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio and in Dolby Digital EX 5.1 as well. Again first off for this film to have been a 1982 release, it’s amazing that we get a 5.1 surround track at all. In fact you get two to chose from and the DTS-HD clearly being the better choice. The sound in this film at times is dialog driven but then again it’s very much still an action film. So there’s tons of gunfire, explosions, helicopter blades rotating, rocks being thrown and even a rocket launcher being fired. This is definitely a bad ass sound mix for one bad ass motion picture. I’m again just impressed by the quality on this release and especially the audio.

EXTRAS
Bonus Materials first off include two separate audio Commentary tracks. One with star Sylvester Stallone and the other with writer David Morrell. The video for the bonus features on this release is presented in Standard Def (most of the time 4:3 Fullscreen, but in some cases 16:9 Widescreen, I’ll note accordingly for each mentioned). “Deleted Scenes” (5 minutes in 16:9 Widescreen) offers us up first an alternate ending that went along with the ending in the book. Next we get to see “John Rambo” have a flashback / fantasy of back in Vietnam. “Rambo” gets to see some Vietnamese action here and so do we in the form of frontal female nudity! The last deleted scene is actually an outtake parody of the ending to the film. Pretty funny stuff.

“Drawing First Blood” (22 minutes in 16:9 Widescreen) is probably one of the best “making of” documentaries you could ever imagine for this film. You get interviews with everybody you could think of. Including obviously Sylvester Stallone, Author David Morrell and Director Tom Kotcheff just to name a few. This is really worth watching and very cool. We learn a lot about how long it took to actually get the film to the process of having a studio and so forth. Also we learn that Kirk Douglas was originally going to play “Col. Samuel Trautman” but he tried to basically take over the film by changing the script. Stallone jokes about running into Douglas years later and that he still insisted his way of doing things would have been better. Very informative and really entertaining feature here. Have to say I really enjoyed this bonus material!

“Out of the Blu Trivia” is the name of what Lionsgate has included as an “Advanced Trivia Track” to the film. It gives you the ability to watch the film and basically get pop-up trivia facts. This is really like a simplified version of Warner Brothers‘ “In-Movie Experience” on HD DVD. Only real thing I have to complain about is the pop-up box color and font choice at times are hard to read. Overall though this is pretty decent for a bonus materials from Lionsgate.
