Here's something that a colleague from work told me about.
It just seems to good to be true.

I have never heard of RWG Mobile, but they seem to be all-Wales mobile network provider with 4G.
RWG Mobile runs off the EE/Now mobile network so will work in 2G, 3G and 4G compatible smartphones. at the moment they dont support wi-fi calling, but state on their website that its "coming soon".

After an initial one-off top-up of £15, you get free allowance each month until you decide you no longer need it.
The SIM gives you a 100 mins, 100 SMS plus a free data allowance of 750MB every month. No further monies or payment is required. Your £15 top-up will remain as credit on your account until you use it.

Not a bad deal, for a spare mobile sim to keep in the car....or a "nil-cost" sim card to give to the kids.

The following was on the Terms and Conditions for this particular SIM Offer:

100 mins, 100 SMS & 750MB offer
To qualify for the offer above you must make an initial top-up of £15. This will remain as credit on your account and never expire. Your bundle of mins/SMS and data will be added your SIM each month until you cancel the bundle, port your number away from the network or your SIM becomes inactive in line with the conditions below.

You must make an outbound call or text in any 90-day period for your SIM to remain active. If you don't do this, the SIM will enter a restricted state which means you will only be able to receive inbound calls and texts. If this happens you can contact our customer service team to reactivate the SIM. Not to be used in conjunction with other offers.

    Something to bear in mind:

'If you do not make at least one chargeable call or send one chargeable SMS/MMS every six months (in either case that results in a charge against your Account or a deduction from the credit or bundle allowance recorded against your Account), then we may terminate this Agreement by giving you 30 days’ notice in writing that your Account will be closed and your SIM Card deactivated.'
    rwgmobile.wales/mob…-c/

    But also:

'Calls to 0845 numbers are charged at 10p/min. 03 numbers are charged at standard geographical rates. '

(So that's a cheap way of doing an out of bundle chargeable call to keep the SIM alive ) (edited)
    crumpetman's avatar
According to the terms you just quoted it doesn't need to be out of bundle

or a deduction from the credit or bundle allowance recorded against your Account

Or a deduction from you bundle allowance. Doesn't have to spend your credit

From their website the 'Teaser Plus' tariff of £3.50 a month for unlimited calls and texts with a 2GB data allowance is also a good deal for anyone who might need a bit more data..........

That reads like it is 15 per month, when in fact it is 15 for the forseeable, the sim renews every month, good deal imo, EE network as well (edited)

I have a few of these for trackers, smartwatchs and the kids "go out and play" plays, its not "a year" its a one off payment. they are good, no problems so far, would recommend for backup phone or things like watches (no esim with them tho)
  5. mailboxmessage's avatar
It's a kind of clever ponzi scheme in a way.
First the SIM is free to early adopters. Then you sell it for £5 to the following adopters, which covers the recurring cost of phone calls / capacity lease made by the early adopters. Then £15 to the curious in search of a good deals, to finance the recurring cost generated by the first two client segments, etc.
The one keeping the hot potato are the late adopters, as RWG can change the scheme.

    Am I missing something?
(TBH, I haven't read the T&C yet, so I would be happy to be proven wrong)
    premierfella's avatar
It is possible they hope that many people blow through the allowance, eventually use up the £15 credit and then either top up to PAYG any out-of-bundle costs each month or pay for an additional bundle on top of the free one.
Alternatively people pay the £15, realise after a few months the bundle is far too low for their normal usage and either go on a monthly paid bundle or leave for another network with RWG making a profit from the £15?

However, I suspect in reality what is happening is mainly that a lot of their customers sitting on the £15 one-off bundle actually don't cost them very much monthly and its sustainable so long as these new customers keep coming in the front door (i.e. as you think! ). I wouldn't be surprised if the £15 its now at is actually getting quite close to them being able to sustain the model due to natural churn.

Its a one off £15 and then you get 100mins 100text 750mb data every month for life or until they change anything.
when they started out it was just free mins/text data but over the last year or so they have made it you have to pay a one off purchase it started with £5 then £10 and now £15
i have had my sim for well over a year and never paid anything for the free mins/text data.

I don't think anybody has mentioned the double top up offer that's on until the end of January. Top up through their website and your £15 top up is credited at £30. (Maximum top up for doubling up is £60). You can then use your credit to buy monthly bundles if the free alliance is not enough, making the bundles effectively half price until your top ups run out, the bundles are pretty competitively priced for low to medium users.

I think people already know about the double top up offer.....most people are probably just interested in the free allowances that you would get for "life".

I think most people already have a current contact sim card....and are just using this like a spare sim (and why not....I mean where else will a mobile provider offer you free calls, texts etc for no further commitment)......

Just got my SIM today, does anyone know how to activate it? I've put it in my phone but it's just showing 'No service'

You have to register on-line for a new account afaik then you can activate when signing up.
  12. tmohammad's avatar
I got the SIM inserted it in phone and seems to be working ok.

How can one check the CALLS/TEXT/DATA allowances remaining? Is there an App or a number you can dial?

Its OK, I found it on their website.

To get Balance of credit, in the phone dialler
enter *669# and then the press the call button

To get balance of the FREE Bundle minutes/text/data
Send a text message to 669 with the text info ukrwg1 (edited)
    amillstone's avatar
Tried the second one to get a balance of the bundle, but all I get in response is an automated message that says the "bundle RWG UK Teaser has already been added to your account"

I've used some minutes, texts and data so it doesn't really make sense to me.

  15. PaulandPam's avatar
The description 'Wales area' is just confusing people.
You don't need a welsh address to get this sim.
You can use the sim all over the UK.
I had the previous deal that cost nothing and came with free minutes, Data and texts each month but ported my number out due to getting the Sky mobile deal that was on here that cost nothing a month forever that included unlimited minutes hotukdeals.com/dea…772

Another reason I ported out is because I was worried about loosing my mobile number if their network went bust similar to the Ovivo sim I had a few years ago. (edited)

Amended title to remove area and reading T&Cs the Company is based in Newport Wales and offers a bilingual customer but there don't appear to be any restrictions based on customer address within the UK.

We've only had about three deals to date for this mobile provider, so happy to hear from existing customers and those in touch with the provider if you can share further relevant information about any aspects of the mobile service (edited)

How does their business model work? How do they account for the open-end liability in their balance sheet?

Just kidding (sort of) but a check at the Company House's website may give a better view. Obviously, EE must have done some due diligence.

I used it for several months for my kids dumb phones. But then it stopped working on one of them and customer service was slow and unhelpful (email reply a week later saying Is it still happening?). There's also no way to check balance/allowance online, and no itemised usage anywhere.

I ended up switching back to 1p mobile (£30/year)
    adam.mt's avatar
Maybe not "online" but can be done via call/text, and they also have an app.

    Did you try that?
  22. NewBoots's avatar
They keep promising wifi calling & volte but no sign of it yet. Don't expect fast swift replies to emails or data updates. All manual. Bit behind the times. Otherwise they're ok if EE is good in your area.
  23. BreakingBank's avatar
I got this for my son. Perfect. 15 one off and you keep it.

One thing to know is that the network shows as "now" on the phone screen.

    Happy and hot
    happpychappy's avatar
RWG piggyback off now mobile who run the EE network. If you look at the packaging for your SIM then you'll see it's a now SIM with an RWG sticker over the top
  24. HereKittyKitty's avatar
Is there any way to spend the £15 on other stuff? I know some networks let you charge purchases to the bill (PSN credit, Spotify subscription, etc) but do these?

It'd bring the cost down to potentially nothing
    NewBoots's avatar
I know short codes do not work. For example if you like to do the odd text competition such as ones offered by Tesco. I do & they don't offer this service.
  25. mustangt's avatar
Been using this for almost a year.
    -One off payment.
-I paid £5 for 100 mins, 100texts and 100mb data which suffices, as my kid uses an old Nokia phone.
-slow response from CS however they’ve been good in addressing issue.
    -overall good coverage.
-as others mentioned good to use in Watches, trackers or spare phone.
  26. Lokesh_Rao's avatar
Careful.. They cancel the package from the backend. I ended up spending all my credit... Did the 5 gbp one last July..
  27. JunctionRoad's avatar
I had this for a while as per this offer, no complaints really, it just worked month after month and the balance was always available. They don't, or at least didn't a few months ago, have any app or website to check your details against, the only way I knew of checking balances was via calls to USSD numbers and texts.

All was going well until the small person went to his cousin's house with clear instructions "Make sure you're connected to WIFI whilst you're there!", needless to say, he wasn't and that quickly demolished the 750MB allowance and then ate all of the cash balance on the account. Not their fault, granted, but shows how easily you can use this up.

We've since switched to one of the Lebara offerings but no complaints with this company.

So what would the cost of roaming be on this sim? Or is it a UK only sim?

    For instance eu countries?
    Switzerland
    South Africa
    Barbados

Something like this should be easy to find but it isn’t. Anyone shed any light?

This is a great option for those who don't want to go back & forth between Lyca and Lebara on their 1p deals, or thereabouts.
    HellriderUKDeals69's avatar
Your statement doesn't make sense as the Lyca or Lebara deals have lots more minutes and data included plus 100 minutes free international roaming.

Not sure about their business model TBH. How could they make money? Or they rely on new joiner to support existing users?
    smackos's avatar
It's actually a similar thing in a lot of ways to what Three used to do. They used to have a "free" data only sim that would give you something like 200mb every month for nothing. I've used this for a little over a year now, have a dual sim phone so picked up two of them. I just use an app on my android to stop all unnecessary data from going in or not when on mobile data. Does the trick.
  33. gwapenut's avatar

I wanted to post their double data deal from these guys a few months ago, but suspected it would be rejected by the mods. Really pleased to see them on here at last. I have the ongoing free tariff and it's a great backup for when I can't get a signal on O2. Long may they continue. PS - I'm not in Wales by the way and the coverage is on EE. (edited)
