Important caveat to be aware of: Plusnet Mobile don't support outgoing shortcode messages. This means you can receive a text from your bank asking you if some transactions are real or fraudulent, but you can't reply. It means you can't text STOP to stop receiving services from a shortcode service, nor can you forward spam messages to the EE spam filter number. It's a royal pain sometimes, as these text message systems become ever more prevalent.

If you really are able to send texts to 5 digit short code numbers, I would like to know if you have any special arrangements with Plusnet, as this is not officially supported, and having just checked with my own sim I am not able to do this.

Any information on how you achieve this would be very interesting.

Lie.I have plusnet and I can do this

Lie? No need to be rude about it.

Receiving from short code numbers is fine, as is replying to business etc that use a regular number, it's only sending to shortcode numbers that seems to be blocked.

Are you sure you're replying to a 5 digit short code number rather than a regular number when you respond to these texts? If so, I'm very impressed, as Plusnet say they don't support them.

To support my assertion-

1. See response from Plusnet on their forums. There are many threads on the subject from people complaining about this issue in their forum and official responses from Plusnet are all the same, they say such messages are not supported.

2. Also, see the bit about premium texts and short codes in "the legal bit" when you start to place an order on the website. (Annoyingly I've not seen any reference to it in the online mobile price guide or other legal sections, they just mention what forms of use are available not what services aren't available.)

I hope this reassures you and others that this information came from an authoritative source and I had no intention of fibbing to anyone.

I know! I don't get the nastiness of it at all. Irony is I'm a happy plusnet mobile customer and voted this deal hot. The only downer is the short codes issue. If someone has found a way to make it work I'd *genuinely* like to know.

3 mobile's 4GB sim via Argos with £50 voucher would be a better deal if you dont mind 12 months contract.

This is massive pain in the arse that I wish I knew about before switching to them. Now looking for an appropriate deal to move away purely because of this - everything else about the service is spot on. Real shame.

Works for me with lloyds. Whenever I use android pay I get a text and I confirm it with yes. They then send a confirmation message.

You can get this for £6.75 if you say you are thinking of getting it from Argos instead over the phone. (25% discount)
For an extra £1 you can get 5GB 4G data and unlimited mins/texts via uswitch

How come?
Great provider, I’ve used plusnet’s mobile sim for over a year, great service
I get 6gb for £10 with them best to wait until a better deal shows up, although if you sign up to this and a better deal comes up for them you can get it changed over the phone with no issues

Are you sure you're replying to actual 5-digit short codes and not regular mobile or landline numbers owned by business? Many business etc use regular mobile numbers for such texts, sending to them works fine. Cool for you if so!

This is what I got.

When the contract papers came through, stated it was £10 per month.

I called 3 and had a good moan, and they reduced my monthly cost to just £7 and credited me with £14 (first 2 months free!).

£7 for that plan (plus the £50 Argos voucher) and you just can’t go wrong.

As Del Boy would say: Lovely Jubbly!

How come?

Because they want you to be direct with them, so they'll offer a discount to keep you direct with them. So I'm currently on this contract, but for £6.75.
been with plusnet seven months no issues other than porting my number took a week to complete.
Three are good at keeping their customers.
I have 3 sims with them.
£10 rolling 30 days with unlimited mins and txt and 8g data 4g.
Was going to bt family plan so they beat it.

IMHO, Plusnet are among the untrustworthy companies in the sector. After being a customer for 2 years I renewed then got a much better deal elsewhere. I used the cooling off period to cancel. They then stung me for the full contract period £175 for nothing in return. 5 unanswered requests to investigate their error. I asked them to provide the call recordings under the data protection act and they omitted the one which supports my case which I believe is an unlawful act. Avoid!

I'm not being nasty. I just don't like people who lie misinform and knowingly make lies when other people have clearly said it has worked including myself.
I have phoned Plusnet regarding shortcodes and they have confirmed they do not allow sending to shortcodes.

I have recently discovered this as I've tried to reply to a few.. I guessed this was an issue but wasnt sure. Thanks for confirmation ... it's a small price to pay atm considering I've got my monthly bill down to £3.50... still a tad annoying!
