Thanks, ordered.

I have had two previous Ipod refurbs and although they are the iconic Mp3 they are just ordinary compared to Sony as well as several other brands. You may get and less memory for this price but sound and build quality make up for that.
By the way the refurbs are a bit hit and miss in my book, one of mine never worked and went back and the other gave up the ghost almost exactly a year after purchase; and Im a careful owner. Apple wanted a fortune to do anything to it so hence never will buy Apple again.:x

You're the only person I know that has had a problem with Apple refurbs, everybody I know buy refurb rather than new just to save a few quid as you normally get "as new" quality.

But then again you just learnt a lesson in how to make sure your contents insurance covers electrical items :whistling:

Sale of Goods Act would cover you on that one.

I've had a couple iPods from the refurb shop, completely new but in a brown box. Refurb usually means clearing out old stock for new iPods soon.

as an alternative, consider this;
amazon.co.uk/exe…OLE

Unlike the ipod its brand new, has much better sound, amazing earphones (i.e. much better than sennheiser cx300/500 etc... in my opinion), better battery life (40 hours vs. 24), fm radio, and it plays iplayer videos..

No messing round with itunes either.

upsides of the ipod - looks better, screen is probably a little better and you might like the software better e.g. the coverflow etc...

just saying :whistling:

Contents insurance... Hmm not sure that for £80 I would ever make a claim on my contents insurance if that is your drift. That would be daft considering the premium hike and problems when it comes to every little claim on a cover all policy like mine.

I have white goods insurance and that is excellent value, I will post it for you when I do my research for renewal. That might help you understand claiming incurred future cost.

As for your being scientific "everyone I know" so it must be true ideology. Then no one has ever had problems with Refurbs.
It seems that you have a problem believing that Apple ever produced a problem product.... Why oh why do you think there are so many refurb Ipods available worldwide?
Also Apple cycled fast through the product generations because they were poor products initially and each new generation was supposed to fix problems and generate new desire.

Refurb equals customer dissatisfaction/ return/ problem/ broken/ poor quality/ damaged and numerous other things beside. Impune away if you will.
Design is everything with Ipods and they achieve, looks good sounds like..... :whistling:

Yeah thanks,
Sale of Goods did cover the one I sent back but the one that failed just over a year is "fit for purpose" and all the other gubbins that the legals require.
Cheers for the input

Here is a good site for your rights if you havent used it already. I have on several occasions and the pro forma letters are very useful consumerdirect.gov.uk/
Also if you ring them they will happily clarify any ambiguous situation you may have come across

Thanks OP ... Just picked up an an iPOD Touch (8GB) for £115.

Luckily the company I work for has a staff discount scheme with Apple so I got an extra £14 off the refurb price of £129.

Happy Days.

£79 for 8GB! lol, you're having a laugh. Cold.

Good deal.

the i pod is not for you if you like ear splitting volume

OK genius thanks for your advise. all i know is this is a good price for an as new 4gen ipod nano. admit this please. We don't need your complaint about product quality, design or other issue. Just admit this is a good price and that's all. thanks.

Where do all these refurbished ipods come from? I can understand refurbished PCs as they were probably leased by businesses ---- but nobody leases an ipod.

Maybe it's a backdoor way of dumping stock they can't sell. I'd have one if it were new, but I don't fancy someone else's cast off.

Agreed with that, a major downside though (for me) is that these cheap Sony models don't support bluetooth (Sony make bluetooth adapters for iPods but not for some of their own players!).

I've bought around 30/40 refurb iPod units for family and friends over the past few years and i've found them to be absolutely brand new condition. Out of the 30/40 - I had to send one back because it wouldn't sync - thanks to the 1 year Apple warranty which you get on these units - they replaced it with another one.

the sony a829 16gb with bluetooth for 95 quid at play was THE billy big nuts deal of the decade, this ipod malarkey gets trampled to the kerb in comparison

bluetoth sux if u want quality audio

Sounds perfectly fine to me through my Sony AD2P stereo bluetooth headphones. The Sony earphones I had before this set were noticeably poorer, but these don't sound much different to non-bluetooth earphones to me (well, compared with the standard ones you get with the walkman and a cheap pair of Sennheisers).

A Good price for an iPod - I got one a while ago at this price and it's been perfect. Do not ask me about iTunes though ! Works alongside my Zen Photo sleek as a more manageable player when out and about..

guys if you want to compare this one with the other mp3 players that's not fair. Compare the price with those brand new ipod nanos on all big websites and see if this is the cheapest,if yes please vote it hot. thanks.

who was that in response to? what are you crying about?

another option is this
*********.co.uk/SON…b51

from argos (through eebz though) brand new, 16gb, gets great reviews and is cheaper. pretty old though but i dont really care, its not like its 10kg and the size of a chair

Apple have done referbs for ages.
And they have been this price (or within a couple of quid of it) for ages.
Mind you, bringing it to everyones attention through HDUK is probably a good idea.

You can get 4th gen ipods for about the same price on ebay, though.

Apple is bringing out the new iPhone in June. Any new Nanos won't be out until Sept, which is the month they bring out new iPods every year.

Please check facts before posting.

thanks for the correction.

Apple refurbs are normally returns which had issues such as dead pixels or dead hard drives that are cheap to fix and then on sold by Apple. Every refurb I have seen (including the Macs) have looked as new but not necessarily in an original box.

They are not clearance stock, as you can find the new style Macbooks that aren't due an update till late in the year (or when Snow Leopard is released). Grab the refurbs while they are still in stock!

just ordered one ! Cheers!

Ordered on Monday 2pm, Arrived today @ 11am. Awesome nano at awesome price.

Thanks!
