The Amazon Basics HDMI cable is only £4.19 and are very good.
I believe all high Speed HDMI cables are 4k capable. Any cable that claims to be "4k" is probably more a marketing ploy. As long as the cable is well made and meets the HDMI specs it makes absolutely no difference whatsoever if you bought it for a quid or spent £500 on some gold and diamond encrusted one. So is £5.99 for this HDMI cable good value compared to other HDMI cables? Others are probably more knowledgeable on this then me. Heat added anyway.

High speed is technically 1.4 which is 4k certified but will lack some feature sets that newer versions have so you can't market a 1.0 - 1.3 as high speed etc e.g. hdmi 2.0 brings in 4k/60p to name one feature of a newer standard and also as above; the Amazon hdmi 2.0 cables are incredible and cheap

I tend to stick with the numerical versions.

The old HDMI cable con. Analoogue had to be good quality to prevent signal loss but quality doesn't comi into it with binary data. Plenty of cable out there does the same job for cheaper.

It’s not so much of a con now , pound shop cables will more likely fail with 4K content . So spending £4 on a amazon basics cable isn’t really a bad deal and if it does fail you can rma it easily

That is so wrong, poor quality cables will lead to dropouts, or even no image at all, BUT, the real point is, a quality cable doesn't have to cost a lot, Amazon Basics are a good example and there are plenty of others available.

If you start to get into longer lengths quality becomes more of an issue.
How did this get hot considering literally the first comment?
Why spend thousands on a t.v., and ruin it with a cheap cable. Seen a gold plated onkyo one for £30 in currys. much better buy!

No thanks I only trust my Sony cables. £85 for 0.75m but at least you get a name people have heard of.

Not sure where I heard this, but I was of the understanding they are going to drop the version numbers in favour of listing what functionality each cable is capable of (I. E. some cables could meet certain higher requirements, without having to meet all for a specific version) . Think this was supposed to be anything after 1.4. Anybody else heard this??

I hope you are trolling. As others said, stick to the Amazon basics cables - only the version number matters (aim for 2.0 or higher).

But then why spend thousands on a TV when cheaper ones do the job just as well. Go and compare the up to £1500 TV's with the up to £3500 TV's in Richer Sounds when they are playing terrestrial television and you will see what I mean. As for the cables, the programme watchdog proved you don't need to pay a lot to achieve the same quality of picture.

I spend atleast 20% the value of the tv on each cable, I was happy when my tv had less inputs and I had to rotate the cables!
