4K UHD google play uk film Moneyball £3.99

Google play has FINALLY started to sell 4K UHD films in the UK and most of them are around £13.99 but currently there is one film at £3.99. Moneyball with Brad Pitt is a very decent film and 4K for less than £4 seems reasonable to me. Also even if you don’t care about the film it still seems like a good opportunity to test out the google 4k capabilities.

Great film and the method behind it now being used by Brentford fc.

Nice to try uhd. shame Spiderman and planet of the apes ain't uhd there yet

Please dont waste any money on this terrible film! I wanted to love it but it really is a waste of time and good actors, there may be a modicum of interest if you are a fan of baseball but it drags along - save your money and time!

How did you find this? If I search for UHD or 4k nothing comes up. Your link to Moneyball works, I just want to see what other ones they have.

Bought this a couple of years ago in hd from play store does that mean I get free upgrade to 4k version? It says in library when I click on link above.

You're the first person I've heard who doesn't rate this film highly. Absolute classic David v Goliath story (plus it's based on actual events)

Fantastic performances across the board, particularly Jonah Hill

Love this film, it surprised me as I didn't think a random film about baseball would be so good.

A Leicester city version would be much better I didn't rate it, maybe because I have zero interest in baseball, and everyone kept telling me it's an amazing film I needed to watch.

Is there any other way to watch this in 4k other than through a 4k Chromecast or Play Movies built into a 4k TV?

In theory it will be available in the YouTube app under purchases. However I’ve found the HD versions tend to be missing!

It was an accidental find, but so far it seems that all the 4K UHD films on Google play have ALL been released by Sony pictures. So other films in 4K that I can see are the newest “spider-man” films, the newest “Ghostbusters”, “Passengers”, and that space horror film “Life”. Just search for SONY and most sony 4K films will come up.

Regrettably I think only Apple are giving free upgrades to 4K films for people that previously purchased the HD versions. Google aren’t offering any upgrades at the moment (free or paid). Hopefully their stance will change in the future.

Looking at the pricing, I think Google are extremely uncompetitive on UHD. I know it is early days but Amazon have already had a decent number of titles in the £5-£10 range, which I believe exactly none of Googles content occupies. £13.99 is a rip off for a digital only 4K film. If you shop around you can get many actual boxed 4K films, which also include standard blurays and HD UVs for convenience or sellable to reduce the ultimate cost further. If you are going to pay £13.99 for a 4K download, might as well pay the (slight) amount extra and get the real 4K disc version.

That said I was thinking of buying this film as £4 isn't bad for any 4K movie but if it is true you can only view on a Chromecast UHD model then it is pointless as I don't have or intend to get one. Google really need to work on their compatibility, crazy that no games consoles or set top boxes have access to Google Play movies....

that's why am torn now between uhd digital or uhd physical. As £22 for Spiderman physical and I get uhd+blu ray+digital. The digital is cool if your using Google family and they have the needed devices.

Don't get stung kids. Spent 20 minutes on phone to Google after buying Moneyball UHD. I have a new Samsung 4K tv but it won't play on it. Google advisor said a Chromecast Ultra device would need to be purchased to view film. So I got a refund. Pretty poor of Google not to highlight this on the UHD film page. Will avoid in future.

Found this info in one of Google play’s forums:
“Even if you buy the film in UHD, you’ll only be able to play it back in 4K resolution on Chromecast Ultra and UHD-compatible Android TVs, along with set-top boxes like the NVIDIA Shield. Everywhere else, including on all phones, you play the 1080p version. It’s also worth mentioning that High Dynamic Range (HDR) playback is available on Chromecast Ultra for UHD movies, but not on Android TV.”

That’s disappointing, but it should be noted that google is planning to update the Samsung and LG apps to support 4K films in the future, although they haven’t specified the dates for it yet.
