Bought some last time for 19 squid - then it was in 5 litres - is this serious? (5w/30)

Thanx. Anybody wanna buy 10L of 5w30? S**t. Here goes another £100 into Hallies as this stuff costs nought 2 feed and lasts for millions of yeras. GR8 post. HOT. Thanx.

Quidco has 10% off for the next 8 days.

In stock at my local Halfords. I'm on my way soon as I finish this thank you. Nice find OP, Insignia is well overdue for an oil change. 2 of these will do nicely, with some left over for spare. Thanks again, heat added.

Oil is oil. Do not get sucked into the advertising c**p. I have been around 2 long and unless u run turbo flat out they will sell u anything. Best advice - change oil and filter at half stated service and if u have spinned a turbo flat out then let it tick over for a couple of mins to purge it of hot oil that will bake when ignition is turned off. Simples in the real world.

At this price, oil and filter every 5,000 miles - easy to remember - 5, 10, 15 etc.

Excellent deal
ordered 2
collect tomorrow

My car is still under warranty..... and while I don't use a Ford dealer for their rip off priced servicing, I supply my mechanic with the correct spec oil and a genuine Ford oil filter.
I'm not going to give Ford any excuse to get out warranty work.

Totally agree. Should go mega hot, and keep Halford's staff on their toes for a day or two, until they run out of stock.

Just gone in 4 another load. Many thanks op cannot buy this at trade prices. Will have to send a Tractor and trailer to collect.

Is this 504/507 rated?

edit:

Nope that's still £31.99.

Oh no - here comes the police. Enjoy the best deal of the week.

They never discount semi synth motorcycle oil either...... recently paid £25 for 4L of Silkolene 10w40.

Hot. Thanks. Missed this last time Halfrauds had this on offer. Now have 3 waiting for me to pick up.

Well it is important to see if this is the right stuff for your car.

Halfords even have a checker which can use your registration number. If this stuff comes up for you, then it is a good deal.

can you use this in an golf m4 tdi PD ENGINE?

Oil is Oil right up until you need to make a warranty claim! Be careful to ensure it meets OEM spec if your car is new or you may find your claim rejected.

Yes because I want to void the warranty on a 50K car to save £20 quid on oil, very sensible. Be careful giving out bad advice even if you are correct in principal, you are dead wrong in reality.

Odd... if i put my reg i get expensive olis (vw passat 2001) 1.9TDI, but they do have 5W40 fully synth for turbo engines?

I'm in need of a full service on my car, do you think if I provide my own oil I could get the service cheaper? Just wondering as they will change the oil when I get a service.

PD engine!! Be especially careful to pick the right oil. Go to Castrol website, even if you don't buy their oil ( go have a look at Fuchs oils - great value) it will tell you the exact oil spec you require.

Yes. Expect to save £60 ish. Don't be afraid to tell the garage you are providing the oil and agree the saving prior to the work, its pretty common now.

Yes.... I do....
They cant charge you for oil when you've supplied it yourself.... they will just charge labour and any other parts.

Check your engine capacity too. With an oil filter change, mange cars will need around 4.5L so you'll need a bit more than the quoted 4L. Check your dipstick after changing it.

Probably because it needs the more expensive oil.

As I alluded to before not all 5w30 oil is the same. There are specific manufacturer minimum standard which must be achieved.

That is why 504/507 oil is more expensive.

Also, It is my understanding that a lot of modern turbo's don't need a cool down period.. From Garrett's web site ..

Q. Do I really need the cool down procedure on my turbo?
A. The need for a cool down procedure depends on how hard the turbo and engine is used, and whether or not the turbo is water-cooled. All Garrett turbochargers must pass a heat soak test and the introduction of water-cooling has virtually eliminated the need for a cool down procedure. Garrett is one of the few turbocharger manufactures that subjects their turbos to several OE qualification tests. When you buy a Garrett turbo you can be sure it's a reliable one!

Q. Should I run a Turbo Timer?
A. A turbo timer enables the engine to run at idle for a specified time after the ignition has been turned off. The purpose is to allow the turbo to cool down thus avoiding "coking" ("coking" is burned oil that deposits on surfaces and can lead to blocked passages). The need for a turbo timer depends on how hard the turbo and engine is used. Running at full speed and full load then immediately shutting down (heat soak) can be extremely hard on a turbo. Water-cooling of the turbocharger's center housing has essentially eliminated the need for turbo timers or extended idling periods.

Obviously it is dependant on your model of car and anyone with some mechanical sympathy might feel "obliged" to a cooling period.
