moot point really - can't see they ever dropping to that level - I remember scan doing 2x2tb internal for about £105 - this is the best price now

you're wrong, it's 1 drive.

Good price, but too much memory for my needs. Anyone know of a good, reliable 1tb for around the £50 mark?

Not necessarily. I have the same model in 2TB capacity and the case looks to be about 6cm in width.

Good price op. Have some heat.

But still £40 too expensive for me.

I've got some 2tb touros which contain a single drive and they're 60mm deep so I'd say this would be a single drive as well.

geez.

all of you asking if this is 2x2TB...just think, it's actually not that difficult.

bare 2TB drive = 650g
this external drive (bare drive with enclosure) = 970g
2x2TB + enclosure would weight = 1620g , almost twice the actual weight

let alone the enclosure is not wide enough for 2 drives.

I would not take the actual weights for granted. As the entire range is reported as the same weight even though there are different amounts of platters And a single drive is just over 550g.

60mm is more than wide enough for 2 drives as a single drive will comes in At 25mm so x2 that's 50mm leaving 10mm for extra components.

Either way it's either a massively over spaced single 4Tb drive or 2x2Tb

I wouldnt trust all the info to one drive never mind an Hitachi. Wont go into drive wars again, but WD are my favourite.

it's single 4TB drive, just accept it.

it's a 4tb hard drive. I bought x4 of these last week to dismantle and put into my HP microserver.

They're getting better - and heat for this as it is currently the best price
(although I wouldn't have a Hitachi drive, WD are my preferred brand).

I have watched HDD prices slowly fall since the quake & floods so I doubt very much the idea that they aren't going to fall further.

Personally I have 1/2 of a 1tb drive yet to fill and another 1tb drive that got slung (er, I mean gently placed) onto the unused pile when I went over to 2tb drives, that'll give me a little more time to see how things go.

(£53 a 2tb drive was my best price at Dixons pre natural disasters)

Fair point, I'm not saying that they won't fall again. I just can't see prices falling to pre-quake levels (or even below)

So you didn't read the comments by two people who have said the 2TB drive is also 60mm wide? It is one drive.

Do they come apart easy? could you reuse the enclosure ?

And what did that have to do with anything? All the exterior cases would be manufactured identical regardless to lower production costs.

Now thats a lot of storage space for your porn collections.

Well to be fair, most people who buy a load of these have a large collection of tv series and films....but also have a nice collection of porn too

Great price for a 4TB drive, even if you bin the enclosure and just use the drive in your PC or NAS.

I assume this is the drive here - dabs.com/pro…tml ?
Edited by: "Gormond" 11th Jul 2012

So if all the external cases were manufactured the same way to reduce costs, they wouldn't hold 2 drives. That would be a waste of resources. Also as these are external drives and marketed as such they would e single drives. If they had multiple drives they would be sold as NAS boxes allowing for raid setups.
