Not voting either way as we've seen better discounts on the eBay front

This will help somebody so that's all I'm bothered about!

Well let's live for today not think about past discount and mourn or wait for the better ones and miss this today.. Hopefully there would be people who waiting to buy items today can make use of the discount.
Amazed £0.01 reduction per litre of petrol went 3000 hot, but 5% off on eBay is not sufficient for some.

You can probably cancel if you do it quickly. Contact the seller. I think ebay would be giving them/discounting the 5% anyway so it makes no difference to the seller.

But I think this is site wide, and a lower minimum price, and as they used to say,"every little helps"and maybe sellers won't stick their prices up.

Unless they listed the item under 1pound fvf. Then when they relist ebay will charge them full price. Happened to me today with an item cancelled by request over weekend, relisted and sold today. But I contacted ebay and they altered the fees for me - same outcome at the end of the day but extra hassle to call ebay.
Too cold

Did anyone remember any bigger discounts around this time of year 2018

Wow a whole 5% off! In the words of the Ferrero rocher advert “ EBay you are really spoiling us!”

Yeah, eBay used to do 20% all sellers (rare but happened) and fairly commonly did 15% all sellers promos. 2019 has been pretty rubbish for eBay discounts TBH, especially the latter half. Nearly all good discounts (15% - 20%) are selected sellers that either are expensive to begin with (so the code just brings the price to the average) or up their price specifically for the promo.

Hate to say this but it looks very much as if the days of 15% to 20% off all sellers are gone for good now , if they were going to do it Black Friday weekend would have been the perfect time and they didn't. Guess they must be starting to do better and don't need to put so much effort in to pull buyers to their site anymore. Good for them, not so good for us....

Pointing towards ebay not the sellers or costumers:P

I would say above is a real discount though its really small and quiet a large min spend.

I would assume eBay is the one that is reducing the amount of real discount happening, they probably also like the fake discount more than the real discount might bring same amount of traffic to the site (as not everybody is smart enough to see what there doing), but i have also heard the last few year they keep increasing there fees from sellers.

I see it two ways,

Real discount site wide discount (for certain % percentage low or no minimum spend) ebay pays for these discount themselves
Fake discount selected sellers (for certain % percentage low or no minimum spend only on selected sellers) These sellers are not informed about a sale and there prices are automatically hiked up to compensate for the fake discount.

I am not sure if that is really how the fake discount works, though there been enough report about people contact the selected sellers and asking why there prices have increased to be only informed they didn't increase the prices and they don't know anything about a sale.

Last year on the 28th Dec, there was a site wide 10% and 15% off code for EBay Aus (£166 max discount) and Ebay US ($100 max discount). You could use these codes while having the respective countries account and then shopping on the UK site. There was also some discount in January 2019.

However right now for EBay UK and Australia (selected sellers discount and site wide), has been restricted to “Country” shipping address only unfortunately. Here in the UK we get a small maximum amount off aswell .
next month 2% discount on selected products

It was one Music Magpie were applying already so this gives another 5% off on top.

works out over £100 less than their shop (non eBay) price
Sorry but 5% is a joke unless bug purchase
Well I think this is alright. Bagged myself £15 off the Dyson Hairdryer that I would have paid more for direct to Dyson....
