5% Off First Class Stamps at Superdrug from 28th Oct

My local Superdrug had a sign outside today saying 5% Off First Class Stamps from 28th Oct.

This is a fairly regular offer now, and it applies to the large letter stamps as well as standard size. A good opportunity to stock up prior to Christmas, if you're like me & never ahead enough to send 2nd class.

The postal service is committing employment suicide if the strike goes ahead, lots of businesses will never go back to such a shoddy, unreliable delivery service, and many postal workers will be finding themselves on the dole queue in the new year. Their total disregard for the massive inconvenience and hardship they will cause millions of people deserves nothing but contempt and I, for one, hope the unions do NOT win in an economic climate where millions are unemployed and the postal workers are lucky enough to have a job.

5% off a so called "first class" stamp is a useless saving in view of the massive disruption these union dinosaurs are intent on causing. Voted freezing cold.

Whats the next cheapest alternative, apart from ecards for sending letters?

Dont put a stamp on the envelope!

2nd class post?

Hand-delivery?

I fing it crazy peoples opinion on this postal strike. The posties have no choice but to strike with most of them part time after christmas and the blatant lies about mail volume decreasing! it is busier now than it has been for years with the growth on the internet and generel online shopping, The trouble is people only believe what they read in the papers and you will be the same joe public moaning when royal mail management get there so called "modenisation" which next year will mean deliveries at 3pm, 3 days a week if you are lucky and the cost of postage doubling. so before you continue to moan about your postie just remember we are not the ones that change for the business for the worse take a look at senoir management that will wreck the business then clear off with there golden handshake!!
Just adding my honest view of what is REALLY happening

Here here !!!!!! (Apart from the cold vote) And thats coming from a subpostmaster who also runs a village shop. These militant postmen have no consideration for the misery this strike will cause others. After possibly the worst financial year for SME's this strike will spell the end for many as it destroys any chance of making some profit over christmas.

I say sack any postman that strikes for breach of contract and give the job to someone that wants to work !!

Wondering why people still bothering to post these days? 2nd class? how about 3rd class then!

I agree with all the sentiments above, from both sides - People should be glad of a job in the current climate, and I don't understand why the postmen and women now aren't doing as much as a job as they could be of clearing the backlog. But also the conditions that posties are being forced to just accept and changes to their pay and hours are down right out of order.

Anyway, aside from all the politics - hot deal cos I buy stamps in the 1000's for work...and life really does go on.

Probably no good for you then. When I tried buying these last year to beat the price increase, the stores only had a few books each. I had to go to a couple of different stores to get the small quantity I wanted.

Wouldn't your company be better off with a franking machine? That'll save about 10% - 20%; the savings will soon pay for the franking machine.

I think there's also a big saving (about 50%) that can be made using a bulk postage plan, I think it starts at about 5000 items per year. Perhaps contact Royal Mail to find out?
Ask your employer about whether they have a suggestion scheme in operation. If they do and you qualify, you could be in for a bumper payout for either of these cost saving ideas!

Our Postie's bosses expect him to work hours and hours of unpaid overtime!

Well said jellybaby. Posties are being treated unfairly and are delivering more mail than ever. If Royal Mail really are losing money then it's not down to the posties

Cheers for all that info, whilst we buy in the thousands we don't actually use them at that great a rate - and would you believe we just dont want a franking machine so as to avoid the aggro we have always had from the sales reps! But thanks for the advice Rep given

Postal strikes & politics aside, this should be live from 9am so here's a bump for those of us that are stuck with Royal Mail.

I'm pretty sure that it's all the stamps, not just first class.

How long does this last for please?

Thanks,

xxx
