Considering seeing family in Perth next year. Going to give this a purchase even if I doing use it for a fiver. Cheers
Note that this will no doubt be a % off the base fare and will not discount the taxes and fuel surcharge which are part of the fare structure.

So although it will be a discount it's unlikely to be 20% off the total purchase price.
Yes very dubious offer, given that you pay for the voucher up front, yet have no way of knowing exactly what 'up to' gets you at that stage
  • Flights and airports:

  • Applies toward return flights from: London Heathrow or Gatwick and Manchester to Sydney, Perth, Shanghai, Tokyo Narita or Manila.
  • The discount is applicable only to the airline fare and does not include taxes, airports costs, surcharges.
Just went to NZ and HK with Cathay and I have to say, they were a great airline. I'm 6"3 and had a decent amount of room in my seat. The food was good. Staff were lovely but not as great with providing alcohol as other airlines, you just have to ask but I wouldn't pay for premium economy as it didn't look great but business looks nice...though nothing too spectacular.
Just quoted London to Tokyo in Business on the Cathay website:

Fare Carrier surcharges Taxes/Fees/Charges
2,000.00GBP 125.80GBP 283.07GBP
Total: £2,408.87
Assuming £20 for the 20% off the base fare, that's a £380 saving, making the total £2028.87

There are other options via BA and Cathay at £2087 without a voucher.
The deal can be booked for up to nine passengers, and the discount would be applied to each ticket apparently.
That would mean more savings when travelling with other people.
The cost of the voucher is really low ...

My gut feel is still that locking yourself into one airline might not be a good idea and the savings are marginal.
