First post kids... be kind.

My lovely wife was shopping today and came across the aforementioned light bulbs.
They're the 11 watt energy type - equivalent to the 60 watt old school light bulbs. Available in both bayonet and screw cap versions.

I know this type of deal has been done in the past by Morrisons but it never seems to last very long. Fill your boots while you can!

Thanks! Btw, Robert Dyas is also offering same deal!

Not sure if they were Philips bulbs, but Dunelm Mill are doing the same deal.

The true equivalent of an old 60 watt bulb is a 14 or 15 watt energy saving bulb.

It is indeed. I don't know why they keep on overrating these energy saving bulbs. Even then it's a different type of light and doesn't travel as far - probably because of the convoluted nature of the tube, half of the light isn't coming directly out and a fair bit is simply hitting the other parts of the tube. It's a bad design.

pretty good price

These are 10 for £1 in Robert Dyas if they have any stock left. Plus they're doing the 40/60/75/100 watt equivalent versions in bayonet and I think 60/75 in screw fitting.

Really not a bad price

Complete tosh these bulbs have the power of a matchstick !!

Actually 10p each, so even better if you don't need to buy lots.

18p each at Netto, but BOGOF....so 1p cheaper. Get em while you can

anone spotted small screw cap bulbs

£1 for 10 in Poundland forever.

I bought some but they are rubbish. Very weak light. I would have gone for more light but the damn things will not break and I have another 6 or so in the cupboard to get through before I get some decent light !

The output of the complete lamp will be measured, so the shape of the tube will be irrelevant. It's not so much "bad design" as the fundamental way in which fluorescent tubes work, so if you want them bulb-shaped you haven't got much choice. Most of the energy used by an incandescent lamp is chucked out as heat so they are a far worse design!

I agree that 11W is not equivalent to 60W incandescent though, and in most cases isn't advertised as such.

Same price at Robert Dyas, except it includes the Osram bulbs, which seem to be better -

Same bulbs at the same price in Morrisons:roll:

Even the OP mentioned that and you didn't notice. Besides which, if you're closer to a Lidl then this is more useful to you. I think your sarcasm is misplaced.
