You shouldn't use ratchets for heavy torque - just the loosening and tightening. Nip up or break with spanner end.

Head added PF...at least I don't need a hard hat to use these...

You are meant to use the open end to tighten or un tighten and the ratchet to put the nut on ir take it off. That's why yours have failed.
I have had a set of these for ages and if used as they were meant to be used they will last, they are good quality. Thanks OP. heat

You're misusing them. They have spanners and ratchets for a reason - if you think the tiny ratchet mechanism inside these is for heavy torque you should use a traditional spanner for the whole process. 20nm and above use a fixed tool.

I get what people are saying about not using the ratchet part of the spanner for heavy use, I use mine for trade though and never mess around switching ends on each bolt, would just use a combi all the time if I was worried about breaking the ratchet. mine get some real hammer and never no issues (not these spanners advertised)

Heat btw

i do tend to agree. i have put some better known brands through some hard use and yes just on the ratchet end. you get better grip on the nut then open end spanner.

As has been said, you use the other end to get it going in chosen direction. Then the ratchet end to snug or remove.

That's because they're carp! If you accept they're carp, and just use the ratchet for running up and down a tight nut, then you might be ok, but that just points out how poor they are.

£2 for a ratchet spanner doesn't buy you much....
Heat added, nice set of spanners
cheap price for a cheap brand and possibly cheap quality. i wouldnt touch my motorcycle with these but for small round the house jobs .. yh .. i guess theyll be fine. but what small round the house jobs would need a ratchet spanner?? almost none. if u buying for something like car or bike maintenance then get a decent brand. like "KS tools" .. if u go with a cheap brand youll end up half assing the job specially if they wear out and round off the nuts and bolts for your thing you trying to repair.. spanner set like this. for 10 quid.. no way gonna be good. it would cost like 50 quid at least for a good set. if u want it to be ratchet aswel.. then ur going over 50 quid..
and the expensive ones will last u a life time. rather than buying 10 of these after they round off or snap.. cheaper and gets the job done properly in the long run

The links you are posting are for combination spanners. These are ratcheting spanners, you don't need to take them off the nut each time you move the spanner back. Much more expensive to make.
I think the Halfords Pro set of these are the best value with a Lifetime warranty.
They may seem expensive compared to these but compared to other quality tool manufacturers they are really good value.

It may be a deal but it's not comparible with this deal as your spanners don't have a ratchet.

Price, quality and value are not necessarily related. Otherwise being charged £50 for these would, following your logic, make them a better product.

Taken for what they are, an inexpensive yet very handy tool for the amatuer to tinker with, these will serve their purpose very well. Just keep them well lubricated.
Had a set of these for ages that get used on the car regularly.

Aldi simply rebrand other tools anyway (often Wolf) and its a case of picking out the good stuff.... like these.

I bought a set of these over 10 years ago and aside from the flexible neck being worn on the 10mm (fair wear and tear I'd say) they've given me no problems at all, they were apparently made by Sykes Pickavant and I have no reason to doubt that.

I also picked up some ratchet spanners from either Aldi or Lidl a year or so ago (though not flex head versions) and while the spanners themselves are slightly thicker they have the same 'clicks per turn' as the Halfords Pro jobbies and are pretty nice to use.

Agree, but will comment that a quality ratchet spanner like snap-on or facom will take the abuse from cracking fasteners on and off, but they are 8x the price at least.

I have some "decent" ratchets and I still use a breaker bar or spanner to get me started or nip up unless the torque wrench is required.
