My other half was browsing through Goldsmiths to see if they still had her engagement ring in stock, and discovered the huge price reduction of it to £480 from £1600, that's a saving of £1120!

Free Click and Collect, also Free Home Delivery (1-3 days).

Can confirm it is a stunning engagement ring, my fiancée absolutely loves hers.

EDIT: MORE IMAGES OF ENGAGEMENT RING IN COMMENTS

EDIT 2: I contacted Goldsmiths about this huge price reduction and they stated that this ring is being discontinued as it is approaching the end of the financial year. There are other versions of this ring still available, such as a 5-Stone ruby and diamond engagement ring, and also a 5-Stone sapphire and diamond ring with a YELLOW gold band. Have a look through their site for other cheap deals. If anybody purchases a ring on discount and is having any problems, I suggest contacting their Customer Service helpline.

White gold. What's that all about?

Take an expensive precious metal and coat it in a cheap metal to make it look like you've bought something made out of silver.

Have I missed something?

white gold is a lighter gold than yellow gold thanks to the other metals mixed in it but it is still a yellowy colour it is plated in rhodium for its finished look

You could be bitter if you couldn't tell it was a joke (relates to phone contract deals where posts with only initial cost get informed the full cost over the contract has to be used)

Do you assume all silvery coloured metals look cheap? Platinum is only cheaper (just) than gold right now because of cautious investment into the Gold "haven" during these tight times. It is 15 times rarer than Gold, less reactive, and some prefer the look of silvery metals over Gold.

White Gold is usually made by alloying Gold with Palladium (another noble metal) to discolour, and coated in Rhodium (which traditionally is much more expensive than Gold, but not recently, again due to investment choices post-recession). Jewellery grade Platinum (95% Pt, 5% In) is more expensive than 22ct Gold (91.7% Au) by weight.

Best surprise ever

For those "in the know" about jewellery and such...is this actually a good deal, or an example of how high street jewellers tend to inflate their RRP's? It looks very nice from the photographs but I can't find anything similar in regards to stone type and carats online?

I had been trailing this ring for months before I bought it, and it was always £1,600, never on sale, never reduced. If you look on their site, you can buy a Yellow Gold version of the same ring, and that one is £1,599 full price. Honestly I have no idea why or how Goldsmiths have reduced this ring by so much, but I can confirm that it has never been this cheap (someone may correct me), as least since I found it and started trailing it.

Look at this ring from Goldsmiths:

goldsmiths.co.uk/Ova…53/

This ring has a diamond which is a lower overall carat, same 18 carat white gold band, and the price is £1,250. This kinda gives you an idea of how much the diamonds are worth, you can look through their whole site and you'll see how expensive some are, which shows how much of a great deal the 5 stone sapphire/diamond ring is.

Hi, thanks for the deal, I am seriously considering getting this for the other half, you wouldn't be able to take any pictures of it for me? As there are none in my local stores so it would have to be online delivery. Thinking I might go for the ruby one though at the same price.

Hi Katie, I've just spent the day browsing to make sure it was a good deal, I think for what you're getting it seems like a decent price, most are 9k gold around this price or a little lower.

I did find this:

amazon.co.uk/Ari…ngs

Which is 18k ring with a 0.5 carat diamond total weight, but doesn't have the saphire/ruby's in it and although the reviews are very good, the measurements are actually quite small for the ring itself, quite thin so you're getting less 18k gold so I think that's how they are able to sell it at this price. It was however reduced from £900.

Personally I prefer the look of the one from goldsmiths so I think I am going to go with this deal instead....hopefully the other half...to be will prefer the look of this one too!

Peter, I'm going to try the ruby one on today for an idea of sizing and to get a proper look at the ring...I'll take a photo for you so you can see it more clearly :-)

Thankyou, really appreciate it! Looks lovely. Did you get to see the ruby one? The saphire one looks good too. Decisions decisions...I'm just waiting to see if I can buy tesco vouchers off my mum as you get £30 to spend at goldsmiths for every £10 of tesco vouchers you have. Got to save money for the holiday when I'll pop the question :-)

This is a great deal in my eyes. I would get it but I'm not sure my girlfriend would like the style

did anyone buy this ring for £480?. I ordered one this morning and paid for it, got the confirmation email. now they sent me an email asking to ring them and the ring has been removed from the page? Before I ring them I just wondered if anyone had paid the reduced price? Thanks
