3 years ago I did the Web dev boot camp on udemy to start learning from scratch how to do Web development. 6 months later I became a Jr developer at my work. Cut to this week and I am a full developer.

It took a lot of effort, training and perseverance but in the past 3 years I've doubled my pay and now have more freedom in my work and when I get more experience I'll be able to do it anywhere in the world.

My point is, no matter your age (I'm 35), no matter your past (I have zero qualifications, highest level of education is secondary school), you can do anything if you just try.

Well done mate, I'm 30 and doing a job which doesn't make me happy at all. So recently started to learn programming.

To be honest it's quite hard at the moment cause there is huge amount of information around and I don't have anyone who can guide me in right direction. But as you said need to just try a put some effort in it.

Hopefully in three years time I can leave a same comment like you.

Pluralsight for me had better Javascript training that most stuff on Udemy. There are some very good Javascript courses on Udemy, but the Pluralsight was better in my opinion, taught me things the others neglected to mention. I had Plurasight free for a month at start of lockdown so I ripped through their Javascript track.

There are three main languages in programming (I know, there's a lot more. But I mean by popularity and desirability) C#, JS & react (and react is just JS but a bit fancier).

Go on udemy or any place that offers training and look for those three. Best place to start is c# as most companies use it (it's Microsoft's language).

This guy is good. He's got a real passion for teaching and can explain things well plus has courses on many subjects.

Nothing beats on the job experience so if you can try that too when you feel ready.

Good luck.

Thanks for your comment. My planned route was python + django. But by started doing it I realised I should learn a html and CSS.
I came up with this after local jobs research.

As you said I also saw quite a lot of vacancies needed c#. But after reading web forums decided to choose python as a lot of people were saying c# it's very hard for beginners.

Can my learning way be successful? Or should I change, what do you think?
Yeah, udemy and some YouTubers are really great!

Start a project. Only use tutorials to teach you something for your project. The project will take as long as it takes, but you'll learn as you go along. If all you do is tutorials all you'll learn is how someone else achieved something. When you try yourself without projects you won't have a clue what you're doing or where to start. There's a reason why it's called tutorial hell.

I recommend The Odin Project if you want to do web development.

Well done, I am in the same position, hate my job, choose the career as it was expected of me but just made me miserable.

The difficulty is, there so much free information out there, you don't know where to start. Currently, I am spending time, understanding the core concepts before moving on to a language. One thing for sure, I don't want to spend so much time learning from books, tutorials, I can spend years doing this and you will never catch up. The key thing is to practice, build you program/app, make mistakes, learn how to fix it and get your brain to that line of thinking.

But to all those who are in the same position as me, good luck. I have 38 years before I can retire, going to do something that will make me happy and figured, even it takes me a few years to find a job, still have over 3 decades before I can retire.
All the ones i tried have expired.! :-(

Make the first step, everything else will fall in line.

Do some research and figure out what you would like to do, and understand this is the beginning of a very long journey, and things will change.
As long as you have perseverance and faith in yourself, you'll be fine.

Thanks for the advice. I am even applying to go back to university part time so I can still work. As much as I want to just rely on being self taught, some of the jobs I have seen is asking for a degree so my goal is to still work full time, part time university but that is next year. I am hoping that I would have learnt aleast one language by next year to give me better graps before Uni. In the mean time, will start to build up my knowledge, fundermental concepts and maybe a few basic programs/apps for my portfolio. The goal is to start applying for jobs next year (even I face rejection, still good interview experience), even if it something small and low pay job, just want to get my foot in the door and then work hard. That is my goal, this is not something I have taken up lightly as the time, money I will put into this, hopefully something will come out of it and in several ears time, like user 'richh' I be in the same position at him, better job, pay and not miserable in my job.

You certainly do not require a degree for any development role, only experience and skill.

People often cite a requirement for a degree simply to make it sound good, but it's not required.

I started to work as a dev during uni!. So no degree there at that point!.

Also only one of the Devs at my workplace has a degree, it's certainly not needed.

So don't get discouraged whatsoever, concentrate on getting the skill and experience, and.be prepared for hard work!

Try to play with python to get up and running fast.
Once you get the bug(pun intended), you'll get going with Java in no time and get into website or app development.

If you want any testers for any games you are developing... Just let us know!

I'm 33. I learned programming at university. I found c# the easiest. I've been doing c# now going on nearly 15 years. Many of the tools are free like visual studio community and are feature rich. So many options hard to choose which one is right.
