Voted cold. Probably the worst way to redeem points barring exchanging them for wine/gifts on the Amex site.

I see this as a free gift card for minimum effort. Have I missed something?

Have a look at what you can get for 10000 MR points. £50 is at the bottom end of the value scale.

Mostly avios, but did convert a massive chunk from MR to starwood then from starwood to Marriot a couple of times. Their hotel and flight rewards packages were legendary. The schemes have changed, headforpoints has detail on them - have a look.

Oh yes the packages were great!

I’ve just converted 400k to HH and booked 2 rooms for 400 HH each. Cash price was £2700 each room and 400k MRs are work £2k so £3.4k up.

I struggle to see the value in converting to Avios especially at £1 for 1 Avios. I got a cheap holiday to Europe one year as it was last minute so cash price was high. I’ve read HFP before but buying points for nearly 1p is bonkers. I need to find a use for my stash of Avios.

Agree Avios is not always a good redemption, but it can make sense in certain circumstances..

The Hilton on Oman was a steal at 5000HH per night, it got pushed up to 10000HH about a year ago and then again up to 20000 the other day.
Pity, I was looking forward to a week in Oman for about £100! :-)
Ok, so I've looked at hotel reward points, I'm not 100% sure that this is enough points for a hotel for the night and I'm only really in it for a quick reward so it looks like I'm taking the voucher.

I'm sitting on a large number of Avios and I'm thinking of using them for hotels, sure it's only 0.5p ish value but I can't seem to get decent value out of them hence asking what you spend yours on to give me fresh ideas.

Wow that would have been good especially as I'm a diamond so get 5 for 4 nights, some UK hotels went up in the past few days too.

I tend not to convert from amex MR to avios unless I need them for a specific redemption as transfer is usually very fast, within 24hrs.
If I had a large balance of avios, I'd perhaps use them on flights as 1p per point is more realistic than it is with hotel redemptions.
Depends on how many avios you have, but I'd advise against wasting them on hotels.
This looks okay, but would a new starter not be better off getting the Preferred Rewards Gold card instead? It is free for the first year and has a 20,000 points bonus on a £2K spend in 3 months. Plus if someone can refer you for it the sign up bonus is higher at 22,000 points.

I never convert MR's to Avios as I have a BAPP that I need to downgrade! I have around the 1 million mark and can get 1p value out of EU flights but long haul I can't but we do prefer going out of LHR/LGW which is costly.

This is exactly what I’ve done although whether there’s a tougher credit check I don’t know but I suspect so as the gold card appears to default to relatively high credit limits (don’t seem to do a charge card anymore).

I got a referral off a mate. I think anyone with a card can offer them as my app seems to let me now.

Saw that but thought 2k in 3 months may have been difficult on my normal shopping

Hi. You’ve opted out of PMs.
Drop me a PM and I’ll see what I can do.
What happened to their old 5% back on the first 3 months, capped at £3k spend?
That made me open my account with them.

The Amex Nectar card works out at around 5% on a 2k spend, factoring in £30 TCB cashback (tracked and confirmed within 7-10 days) and the 20k Bonus Nectar points. However, converting the bonus nectar points in the Sainsburys double up event can net well over 10%, depending on what you buy.
I usually buy Ps4/Xbox games and then immediately sell them to CEX for cash as this is really easy to do. Works out around 11-12% (£220-£240 back) on a £2k spend within the 1st 3 months, which isn't too shabby for just a little bit of effort

You can ditch the card once the points are transferred to your Nectar card and then re-apply 6 months later as a new customer , same bonuses again, thank you very much.
