£50 instant discount on BA flights with Amex card application

Might be helpful to someone given there's no longer CB on BA flights...

£50 *instant* discount on BA flights if you apply for a BA Amex card at the time of booking a flight

No specific eligibility terms I can link to and no idea if there is a minimum flight spend.

Here's what I did,

  • Added a flight costing £195
  • Logged into my BA account (I'm only Blue)
  • Filled in passenger details, clicked checkout..
  • At BA checkout offered instant credit of £50 if apply for BA Amex
  • Applied, by clicking through the application
  • Agree to charge the flight to the new card
  • Returned and completed purchase for £195
  • Get the £50 credit on the first statement

Would going through cash back website + more bonus miles work out better?

Not sure I follow mate. The credit is via Amex onto your first statement.

The ticket type you are buying and the bonus miles you get, or if you are using miles to discount the ticket price (I did), or cashback all unaffected.

Hope that helps.

Cashback(if any) remains unaffected by this, as this is something Amex are paying for taking their credit card.

Have quickly checked, and Quidco and Topcashback both offering:
£10 cashback (plus Amex would give you 5k avios when you spend £1k in 3 months)

If you value Avios at 1p each, this basically comes out at the same as the BA offer of £50 cashback + 1k avios, so I guess it depends on:
a) your personal valuation of what an Avios is worth
b) whether you are Avios / cash rich already

I think they meant cashback on getting the Amex (which would be affected by this, as you are being referred by BA for the credit card), where-as I assume you are thinking about cashback for the flights

you need to explain what you mean by " no longer CB on BA " do you mean cashback? please don't assume we are all mind readers on HUKD!
This offer is terrible. You get a better deal with a spend bonus by applying direct to Amex, or via. TCB.

25,000 avios is available through Amex if you are able to spend £3k in 3 months. That is worth £125 cash, or, up to roughly £500 if redeemed carefully for business class flights.

Actually can't believe that BA are offering this as a deal!
Is there a minimum spending for the flights?

From the OPs post it appears you can get this on the classic card. You can't get a 25k Avios bonus on this classic card. You're talking about the premium card which carries a hefty annual fee. Also, some might prefer instant cash over Avios. If you are looking for a high bonus card then their Gold, Platinum (both charge not credit cards) and Nectar credit cards are worth considering. None carry a fee in the first year.

Platinum charge card has a £450 fee, but is refunded pro rata. Platinum cashback is £25 or free depending on the version. SPG also worth a look.

oops , yeah I did mean the cashback card (didn't realise they introduced a fee on this one) not the £450 one. The Gold probably offers the most versatility for redeeming through the MR programme (could get 20k Avios if the rate is still 1:1).

Hi. Fair challenge, but horses for courses, no?

If you are able and prepared to drop £3k on a credit card and then bank 25k avios for a future flight, do so.

If you simply want £50 off a £200 flight *right now* take the offer, pay the first statement and then cancel it.

Or do both!
