This is similar to the Panasonic deal I posted (shown as expired). Great price for a 50" TV that popped up around Christmas but kept going out of stock. I bookmarked the page and it's currently available but low stock. It doesn't show up on the Tesco site directly so the link is:

tesco.com/dir…135

It's worth keeping an eye on it even when shown as "out of stock" as it seems to reappear every now and then.

Suoer-hot deal! Thanks OP!!

Brilliant thank you

great deal.. don't really need 1080 screen unless you're plugging a games console..
I've got a 50 inch 720 plasma its great.. but for games I'm not loving it....

Should be hotter!!!

It has a resolution of 1024x768 so is actually an XGA format and would have to scale even a 720P HDTV broadcast format which are usually 1280x720. Not really worth the £240 in my opinion.

tried, but out of stock when you try to buy

Original Poster

It does that when you try to checkout but bookmark it and check it every so often and if you're lucky, you'll get one. I was in the same boat with the Panasonic 50" deal I posted and that's been "out of stock" since before Christmas and it's been popping in and out of stock over the last day or so. I personally know 2 other people who managed to buy one of those in between the out-of-stock messages. it's worth keeping tabs on if you're looking for one.

It may not be a world beater in spec but for the price it's value for money

the code doesn't work for TV, it only works for furniture?

Sorry It seems like the code is supplied by hukd...

remember £10 off TDX-YGPK.

I bought the Panasonic one because it is cheaper and Panasonic is the best Plasma TV maker in the world.

Ok, you have a 50 inch tv for £240. It will work well and show your tv shows and DVD's etc. It will look good and you will not be disappointed For you and others it is probably a good buy, especially with a 5 year guarantee, but for the more tech savvy who probably want to fo a little more with the display, it wouldn't be something that would appeal.

Moderation?

Bloody hell, they'll be giving these plasma TVs away with breakfast cereal before long.

What do you mean "scale a 720p broadcast"? So would a 1080p TV. This plasma (like every other 1024x768 one) will have rectangular shaped pixels, because if they were square it wouldn't be a very wide screen at all. Nothing wrong with it being 1024x768, it's just like a HD ready LCD being 1366x768.

Only if you are using it for lots of gaming, that's the reason I got rid of mine. For everything else it was absolutely amazing. If this one is anything like my old one it will have blacks and contrast equal to the very very best LED tvs and the colour and richness will be the equivalent to and LED twice it's price.

Good as a spare for the bedroom

A 1080p set would upscale, this will downscale. Its not really a HDTV set, its an EDTV set.

No stock, cold

Great deal but out of stock

brilliant price for a 50” tv, voted hot hot

for £49 more you can get full hd here bmstores.co.uk/pro…150 but the brand name isn't as good as Panasonic

Why do people bother............

I bet everyone raving over this was in the queue for the Asda Black Friday events #fact

I ordered the 50" Panny around 6pm last night and they Tesco had loads-they must've sold like hot cakes!! I commented on a few HUKD threads. Personally, I would wait and see if the Panasonic comes back in stock... it's Freeview HD and Panasonic have a great rep for their plasmas. Brilliant reviews on the net. And, it's £15 cheaper.

Why would you pay more for a worse tv though? I guarantee that if you watch a film in the evening with any dark scenes you would think that this tv is worth twice as much as that Blaupunkt. These cheap hd ready plasmas have incredible black blacks whereas cheap leds have terrible washed out blacks. What's the point of having more pixels if it looks terrible?

personally would stay away from plasmas.
reason is there is a lot more inside that can go wrong, and they seem to produce a lot of heat, which could make one of those things go wrong. better quality ones might have fans inside to keep them cool though.
my info is not fact though, just a feeling O.o

I was lucky enough to receive a LG 50" Plasma from Tesco Direct a few months back for £105. The fools mispriced it

I personally wouldn't pay this much for a 720p TV, plasma or not.

50" 720p TV? lol.

I would buy 1080p minimum, nothing less. But that is just me.

It depends how far you are going to sit away from the TV...I suppose.

Can you tell me the distance? You might need to get the tape measure out.

If you look at this chart for instance, it would suggest you get a 1080p one, due to the distance you've said.

Personally, if budget isn't an issue and this will be your main TV, I would get a better 1080p one. But if you really like the price, and this isn't your main TV, then you could keep it. Also, if you sit even closer than 270cm, then the difference will be slightly more noticeable. HTH.

I'd suggest switching on the one you have ordered, I suspect it will happily do the job you require. Unless you are watching Blu-ray or gaming a 720p TV will look good. It's not as though we are likely to be receiving 4k transmission any time soon. Save your money. :-)
