I wish! I dont even own my house yet.

Besides that would be company self promotion and thats strictly not allowed on HUKD.

Glad to see some are finding the good pickings to be had on the site though:thumbsup:

These prices are cheaper than that on ebay.

Brilliant!

Actually currychops I do own 90 odd % of it now (my home that is) the building society own the rest:p

Congrats on the 3000th post while casting doubt on my integrity btw:giggle:

Have just ordered the 6400 with Core Duo 2.0Ghz, 2GB RAM, 160GB H/D, 256MB Graphics and 15.4 truescreen for just over £550. Just hope it comes now! By the way will need Vista Premium so any good prices on it anywhere?

Quick question for the experts
Is there a big difference between core duo and core2duo?
I would need it for audio work, and some video too, obviously core2 will be better but I'm on a budget.
Would a 2ghz core duo be better than a 1.83ghz core2duo?

Cheers

Kevmcc, opinion is that like for like clock speeds 2duo is between 10% and 30% quicker dependent on the application being run. In real terms I doubt the average home user will be able to tell much difference.
I would suggest you google for benchmarks using the sort of apps you intend to run to see what the scores are.

Original Poster Moderator

Sidmon there is a thread somewhere on pricing for Vista, have a search for it.

Thanks for this MIke Hadn't heard of them before now either! Nice find ;-)

Thanks Mike, I have been looking around to try and see if core2 would be better.
I'll be using stuff like Cubase, Reaktor, maybe ProTools for audio and Premiere Pro for video, still not sure if core2 is worth the extra

Thanks for that...will try and find it.

I suggest you talk to guys in forums for those apps to get opinions, I dont use any of those:?

Thanks again Mike. One more question if you don't mind since you seem to be a Dell expert.
What's the deal with graphics in the 640m range? A quick search tells me it's integrated graphics, so I suppose its not a good as the 6400?
A review also says

Dell has installed its MediaDirect instant-on technology on the 640m, meaning that you don't have to boot into Windows to watch DVDs or listen to music.

That sounds good, does it just mean it works like a portable dvd player, no need to boot the OS?

Mike do you work for dell then, as you always have the up to date info......lol

Mr T No, I dont work for Dell, I dont have the time!

Kevmcc, the graphics intigrated into the 640M are good enough for far cry with some eye candy turned off but not as good as the 6400 graphics which is 128 or 256meg card. Both the 640M and 6400 can be used as a dvd player albeit a very expensive one!

The 640M is well liked by me as its just that bit smaller than the 6400 and it makes the difference for portability for me.
I also like the Latitude D620 which is around the same size as the 640M but can have Nvidia graphics spec'd.

Incidentally take a look at the D620 for sale at about £450 at MCS as that has the Nvidia graphics.

Can't be "that" well kept - three and a half euros to companies registry in Ireland gets you a report of who the directors are, who the shareholders are and so on. And if, as I suspect, the shareholders are Marine Computation Services Group Limited, then another three and a half euros finds out who owns that. And who the ultimate beneficial owner is, too.

the core 2 is the better and latest CPU ...I'm sure the core duo CPUs will meet your needs..and no a 2ghz older core duo is not better than a core 2 at 1.83 ghz..if you can up the budget try and get a core 2 is my advice.

Thanks Mike - I've just bought a Dell Inspiron 6400 (Centrino) with Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0ghz 1024mb/100gb Sata Hard Drive /15.4" Wide SXGA+ TrueLife™ Screen/DVD-RW Drive/128mb ATi Radeon X1300 Graphics Card with Vista installed and 1yr Guarantee for £565 inc Vat & Postage.

If you run this through the Dell Site you're looking at £900+

Theres been no confirmation email yet which is worrying me a little!

Just had mine come today bang on the 48 hour delivery time. Lovely piece of kit....it's supposed to be refurbished but you wouldn''t think so to see it....looks brand new. The RAM is 667MHZ but the graphics card is only shwoing 128mb...am I right to think the X1400 ATI is 128MB Graphics and 128 shared?

I just placed an order there.
Was a bit disappionted that the price jumped £30 after tax and delivery.
Reckon i still got a deal though.

Will others please updates us when they receive their orders and give a little feedback?
Thanks

Received my order after 30 Hrs from order time ... Fantastic , absolutely NEW-looking laptop !

Glad to hear the positive feedback cctest.

Welcome to the forums by the way. Dont be a stranger now:-D

Piece of advice...dont leave your other half to mess about with it while your at work.....I'll get in tonight and it'll probably be f***ed already!

looking for a computer for the wheelhouse on my fishing boat with 3 USB ports

at a decent not too expensive price

can any one recommend one from this dell site

thanks in advance

im sending my PC back - paid £440 and the tower wont even power up!

they are meant to be sending a replacment but its been 2 weeks of waiting and i cant be bothered now. id rather have the money to be fair and a crap PC.

besides according to bbc news 24, Dell are selling their products at a 40% loss right now, and in 6 months could be finished. Packard Bell are looking at a takeover.

Thanks a lot for ur greetings Mike. I've been around this forums months ago, butyea, used to be a stranger haha ...
Thanks again for the mcs website, it's amazing, man!

Also went for one of these, a 2ghz core2duo inspiron for under £500. Thanks for the pointer and advice Mike.

Onkly thing I have found with it is that its difficult without the driver disc to get everything working. I am still struggling to install the ATI driver software from the Dell website.

Buy Windows Vista Home Premium for ~ 70 quids and you don't need to care about those Drivers anymore. Vista gets it done for u. Good luck mate.

Update fom earlier post - received mine within 24hrs of order, fantastic condition & spec for a bargain price what more can you ask for !!!

If you check out the actuall Dell Outlet website (part of the Dell website) they are actually cheaper than MCSCOM.

Suspect they buy their equipment from the very same place and mark it up on their own website.

Don't get me wrong it's cheap but Dell's Outlet website is cheaper!
