50% off meals at certain McDonald's restaurants for Emergency Services personnel (NHS, Police, Fire Brigade)

I like to think that I know most of the good NHS/NUS deals out there, particularly when it comes to restaurants, but when my colleague told me about this deal I must admit I was shocked.

I'm not sure how long this has been the case, but some McDonald's restaurants offer 50% discount off certain meals for emergency services personnel. This has been verified in Yeovil (Lysander Rd) and in Bristol.

This includes certain breakfast meals as well.

All that's required is to show staff your ID badge and ask which meals (if any) are included.

I think if the restaurant is a franchise then it is at the manager's discretion but it's worth asking when you next go in.

The below is taken from the FAQ section of the McDonald's website:

mcdonalds.com/gb/…tml

Do you offer a discount for the Emergency Services?

In the U.K., we don't have a nationwide emergency services discount scheme. However, some of our restaurants do offer a discount for emergency services personnel, but this is currently at the discretion of individual franchisees (around 70% of our restaurants are owned and operated by franchisees).

Good luck and please report back if your local restaurant offers any discount.

Does this include nurses?
Who is going to look after the emergency services once too many MacDonalds takes it's toll on their health?
Working in the emergency services, there are 4 McDonalds in the area that I work and neither offer discounts.

Definitely not. Some local branches offer free hot drinks at night but nothing more.
That counts in Hull and Scunthorpe but can't comment on anywhere else.
I used to get a free coffee from most branches in Sheffield when I was on duty 👌
Cold, thanks for posting.

Fife does tend to be a bit tight though

I imagine it is at the discretion of each restaurant, but my colleague works in IT in the NHS and just shows his ID badge.

I live in Fife - Kirkcaldy! And both the McDonald’s offer the discount. The one at the retail park and the other at Asda. The discount u get is employee discount. It’s cheaper me buying a large chicken nugget meal, than a happy meal for my son.

I thought it might be some sort of employee discount, thanks for confirming it works elsewhere.

Did someone have a bad night's sleep?
I didn't say it worked in every restaurant, try reading the description!
Another member has already verified it works in their local.

Yeah its mainly just free drinks, coffees and milkshakes. They do this to deter robberies and youths from loitering the stores.

Edit: If you get free food, the managers probably fancy the officers. Cheeky that they get discount also

I regularly see Police officers in the 2 nearest Waitrose Stores - partaking of their free coffee.... especially at night time.
I just assumed stores were happy to encourage this as someone else has posted - as a visual deterrent to local N'er do wells.....
Police Vehicle in the car park is a double bonus
Maldon Mcdonalds franchise is owned by an ex servicewoman, and now they give employee discount to all military personnel.
Id be embarised to ask
Surely this is false economy?
What? We have emergency service Personnel? News to me after all these cuts.

If the cutbacks don't get you McDonalds will!
The one at Preston Docks gives a discount, it just varies, sometimes its money off, sometimes it's free food, either is a win

UK isn't any better believe me, we just don't let our people's true nature make it on TV
What sort of deal is this potential 50% off ? looks like its a free cup of tea at most in 1 in 10 places.

Interesting, will have to show my warrant card next time I pass through and see what they can offer me in Wolverhampton
Most emergency services discounts in food outlets seem to disappear over recent years... going from some very good set priced kebabs, 50% off some Nando’s and 50% off Chipotle (in uniform) to 20-25% across the board. It’s doesn’t make it practical or affordable with such frequency, if one company offered a decent discount again, certainly in London, they would make a lot of profit based on the actual cost to them. This would be indeed specific to some McDonald’s restaurants but seeing some of the fights and issues on Friday and Saturday night in London I am surprised they don’t do more to get Police in them to offset some of the issues they get. Especially witb the amount of food that gets binned. Buts that’s my two-penneth worth
Judging by the videos on social media..

I was under the impression that the Police aren't allowed to eat on duty. They are merely slaves and robots to the public?

I said 'too many', not 'moderation' ....... never mind 😋

Why?

.....really? Because, if they're giving out free food to ES workers, and they then get heart disease as a result of that, ends up costing more money overall?

I'm guessing it's probably down to abuse.

I'm sure no one begrudges genuine front-line emergency services personnel a few discounts or occassional queue jumping whilst on duty etc.

However, you can bet your bottom dollar that many species of "desk jockey" admin staff / managers suddenly deem themselves to be "emergency workers" in order to take advantage of these discounts. And given the current NHS ratio is2 administrators ("managers", secretarial, assorted paper pushers and non-clerical support staff) for every clinician (nurses, doctors, paramedics, medical technicians etc), it's easy to see how genuine emergency services personnel lose out.

Some have been abused for definite. Nando’s used to do 50% off for Police on and off duty a good few years ago until the biggest Police force in the UK got stuck into it off duty with their families (allegedly) which after a while Nando’s reduced to 20% through the continued abuse... (allegedly )

But they're not giving out free food, they're just giving a discount.

Also I'm pretty sure eating McDonald's doesn't give someone heart disease (unless they eat it 3 times a day and don't exercise of course!)
