You'll only be seen as a chav if you behave like one,
no one is going to judge you by a label that you're wearing,
if this is the case every news reporter that wear northface are chavs, going by what you just posted.

Crap gear now, was ok a few years ago.
They're going for quantity and compromising on quality.
Gone completely downhill for the reason(s) stated above. Quality of items has massively deteriorated.

TNF has always been a mass-market brand, and not a proper outdoor brand.
Some of their styling is quite good. But I find Berghaus much better for "casual outdoors" style. I seriously don't get all the chavy comments that pop up each time there is a TNF deal. Who cares what chavs and upcoming drug dealers wear.
Seriously its not the name that counts. just after Christmas my good jacket got ripped so I needed a new one and though I would have a look in Sports Direct as I wouldn't normally shop there. I knew how cold it was outside so I tried on a padded jacket made by Everlast that was very comfortable and was only £10. That's why I say don't always go by the name cos when I put the jacket on and went outside I froze my B****cks off it was S***. Didn't really apply on this occasion, oh well.

Well done and valid points.
Been after a Verto, unfortunately its either eye bleed orange or hang yourself grey.

I own a few pieces of "outdoor" wear and have to agree, TNF is abit overpriced for what it is. IMHO its on par with the likes of Marmot or some mid range Bergy.

If I had to go on an expedition through the Himmalayas I think i'd prefer to go with the likes of Mammut, Rab or even HH.

Saying that if i could have got a Verto in a better colour i'd be a ton worse off so...

Voting hot on that basis
Hot for me, I finally found a GoreTex jacket under £100.
Cant justify spending double what another ordinary clothing company (nike) prices at.

Wrong, very wrong.
In case someone is interested, I just picked this one. Finding Goretex for under £100 is a real gem:

Black colour is £180, but the blue one is £90 and they still have M and XL sizes and the brown one has S size only.

Yeah, links from HUKD seem to be messd up now, but if you copy/paste that link in your browser you should be able to see it.
Unfortunately they have become something of a victim of their own success - always used to buy TNF for hiking and mountain biking but it is disappointing to see so many people just wearing it on the high street now who wouldn't know a muddy forest trail if they saw one. Still think their gear is generally decent enough quality though - amongst a couple of lightweight jackets, the Nuptse gilet, bags, gloves, hats and shirts, have a TNF Ice Jacket and it is excellent.

Generally though, as a brand, preferring Arc'teryx and Jack Wolkskin now - but waiting for the high street crowd to pick up those ones too...it's only a matter of time!

I work with the homeless in Glasgow City Centre, and use a lot of TNF gear through out the year. when not working, you can normally find me in Glencoe.

so not everyone on the high street fits your description.

I've never seen someone as moronic as you in my life.
Jeez. Jackets must have been designed on LSD.

He forgets we live in a cold and ridiculously wet climate. How dare anyone want to stay warm and dry! Also how can you tell people don't partake in outdoors activities? Do those that frequent forests never visit the high street?

TNF is like Barbour and a lot of other brands now, they have cheaper fashion lines but they still make decent gear for those willing to pay for it.

They're a huge global brand and chavs probably make up less than 0.0001% of sales...

You have never seen me so how can you say that? You should have said "I've never read something as moronic as this in my life". Anyway, I meant it's a bit like surf wear - used to only be us surfers who tended to wear it - now everyone is wearing the surfing brands because they think it makes them look like a surfer! X)

Why is that disappointing? What difference does it make to you whether people wear it on the high street or not?
Besides, they're hardly a victim of their own success. They're probably loving the fact they now sell more stuff than ever and have a nice new shop in pretty much every major shopping centre/high street along with outlet stores and being sold in huge chains. I imagine their profits have never been higher!
I personally don't rate their stuff anyway, I have a few bits and I'm no mountaineer, sorry if this offends anyone
