Royal Mail still haven't got it. Hermes will collect from your house, with tracking (accepted by eBay / PayPal) at regular prices below Royal Mail's amazing discounts. Factor in queuing behind some computer challenged person in front of you in the local post office (always with just one window open) with a stack of large letters with handwritten address on buying postage at 30 seconds+ a go.

When Royal Mail start to offer a slick drop off or collection service to people who post parcels (below the large volume required for PacketPost etc) and a way to print postage that recognises through a discount that you are using your time and not wasting their staff's sat behind glass windows, they may regain some of the huge amount of lost business.

Out of the last 10 items I had delivered by My Hermes, 1 was in complete packaging and not damaged, 2 were apparently delivered and signed for (they weren't), and the rest were either damaged ,ripped packaging/missing part of the order or left outside on the doorstep with no card through the door and no attempt to leave with a neighbour.

Of the last 10 things received via Royal Mail everything turned up safely and undamaged, 1 item was left with neigh our as I was out and a card was left.

I know buyers and sellers who have stopped using hermes because of their rubbish service, personally I prefer to use my local PO.

Well that maybe your experience and there are always local problems. How many people have had cards left by the post office without the postie even knocking at the door? How many people have had attempted delivery and no card left? When the Post Office halve their prices, get with the 20th century and offer actual tracking and stop treating good customers who use their web services worse than those who waste their and my time clogging up post offices buying stamps over the counter I may use them more.

haha not just me I'm afraid..... Don't get me wrong, I've had issues with PO in the past, but these have been isolated one off incidents not every delivery in the space of a few weeks.

Have read most of this stuff and when you poke a bit below the surface you tend to find heavy fragile objects which may or may not have been packaged well. Listen I'm no Hermes fanboy and maybe Royal Mail are (as they are with EVERYTHING including service at Post Offices) sloooooower and more caaaaarrrreeeful but you know what for most things sent it doesn't matter. You really can't 'break' a pair of curtains or a book or a pair of jeans no matter how hard you throw the package. I would maybe send very fragile items through Royal Mail mainly as Hermes and others tend to restrict compensation on such items. But for 99% I'm happy and I've not had any problems, nor it would seem do the big retailers who use them. If they were breaking and losing things all the time for which they get £3-4 income from they would be broke in a week.
