nice find

Great deal, dreadful timing for me tho unfortunately

renewal quotes are invariably a stupid price... even the AA and RAC will give you a better price on a renewal quote if you call them up and threaten to cancel their cover so it's not surprising that green flag will halve it but they're better than the other two and there's often a cashback deal on greenflag anyway. check tcb or quidco first and see how cheap that'll make it...

Had a renewal from the rac for £33.99,the cheapest i could get was through tcb AA £23.88 including £11.11 cashback

Green Flag price £16.96.

don't think you're looking very hard... found AA cashbacks on quidco from 10.00 to 100+ in about 10 seconds so i'm guessing there are also offers with both quidco and tcb for pretty much all the roadsicd asistnace co's...

Are you comparing like with like here i.e. is it cover for the person and not tied to the vehicle?

I thought this post was about Green Flag and not AA. There is no CB for a Green flag breakdown policy, post the link if you find it, please.

i thought this post was about getting the cheapest roadshide assistance deal...

i'm guessing the prices talked about on here are for basic cover? usually take roadside plus travels to destination options, so don't know about the lower end of these insrances. but a couple of alternatives:

the best breakdown cover (bundled so not the cheapest) i have found is via my nationwide account... 10.00 per month for a current account that also gives free mobile phone insurance, world travel ins, extra one year warranty of electricals and full roadside assistance for the whole family for10.00 per month...

autoaid will give full cover, inc. home start, cover for caravan, spouse etc. for 41.00 but it's a pay and claim back company. i would say that, if you do motorway travelling, the basic roadside cover just isn't sufficient. for peace of mind, go up a notch and get the guarantee of tow home to your house or own garage.

just trying to point out that there are many other offers out there and being given a notional half-price offer is good, in principle, but doesn't nec. beat the other companies out there... (but, you're right, at the moment, there are no green flag cashbacks but i have myself had a major cashback deal from quidco from them, so they do come around).

it gets more complicated the more you investigate but there's nothing more miserable than getting a flat on the motorway and being towed to an anonymous garage or being late for work and knowing you can get it sorted only if you get a friend to tow it the minimum distance from home to satisfy the conditions. in the end, it's all about peace of mind and the lowest option doesn't nec. offer that

hope this helps someone...

ps. auto renew on cards is the standard now... always cancel it into the contract if you don't want to get stung the next time around. it always helps on the next negotiation.

nice find. really great deal.

The deal is across the board not just for basic cover, look i posted this to help the community please stop the negativity.

I use autoaid, have used them too. Brilliant help even though the under equipped monkey couldn't get the car running. I managed to fix it myself but didn't want to get my hands dirty.

not sure why you think i'm being negative? i've suggested some other options, is all. don't take it personally when someone throws in alternatives, especially when they vote your post hot at the same time.

Just as a comparison try Start Rescue. They were the cheapest when I renewed my breakdown cover 2 years ago, then still the cheapest when I renewed 1 year later. They're on quidco too. I've called them out a few times both on my own and partners car and whichever local recovery company they've sent out has always arrived within 40 minutes and been very good.

Any company other than AA or RAC will just send out a local recovery agent - so the quality of the service is pretty much the dependant upon whichever local company is available to assist.

I don't have cover currently and have been thinking about going with SMART. My Direct Line insurance wanted about £70 for roadside recovery and the AA wanted something stupid like £150.

So I have been thinking about the SMART deal on here. Just wonder which is best - Green Flag or Smart? Of course, i don't have nay car breakdown cover currently to get 50% off. Not sure if this deal applies to me.

Would welcome any advice

Another vote for AutoAid here. I've been with them for about 10 years and called them out lots, particularly when I've had older or problematic cars , they've always either fixed me up or taken me home, and the wife too is covered. Never had a problem getting paid back but you do have to remember and make sure the recovery company that comes out gives you a proper receipt. As I said loads of claims and the premium is always around £40 for full national recovery. (and no I don't work for them)

Ensure you compare the deals for your needs accuraly i.e. do you need
Home cover [Home start as the AA call it]
recovery within 1/4 mile of your house
Cover for yourself [any vehicle] or for just the vehicle
Breakdown repairs
Recovery over 10 or 25 miles
European cover [usually less than 30 days]
Recovery to a local garage near where you broke down [not home]
Recovery to home address and nearest garage to home
Hotel/travel costs
Replacement vehicle

There is a lot to look at and to decide which is better for you as the permutations available on each deal may differ,Have a look at Quid co or Top Cash Back for deals if you dont match the above deal

I'm not taking it personally , i did start to wonder whether the negativity was related to a deal you posted yourself for AA cover which went slightly pear shaped.

hotukdeals.com/dea…427

a few years ago i had a brake caliper fail (stuck on, ruined the pads), called the RAC, they came out to me, took a look, then said they could go get new calipers and pads and replace the lot there and then, which they did. I was on my way about an hour and a half after i made the call....

A couple of years later i had a similar problem with a different car (bad luck i guess), this time i was with Green flag as i had that cover with my bank account and it seemed stupid to pay out extra for RAC cover. Called them up and they said ok we'll come and recover you... I asked them 'cant you fix this kind of thing yourselves?' and got the reply 'No sorry we never touch brakes'...hmmm, doesnt really fill me with confidence in their abilities, needless to say i no longer use Green Flag. Changed banks (from Natwest) too in part due to that.

Great deal. Signed up to recovery plus costing me £33. Heat!

you're investing waaay too much time investigating my past merely to call me on a comment.

Heat added little pal

Just got this deal on full cover excluding European cover, RAC renewal price was £112.00 and they wouldn't budge on the price despite not having used their services over the two years I have been with them. They also don't seem that bothered about retaining existing customers. Green flag offered all the same for half the price at £56.00. So just letting you guys know this deal is still on and v hot!
