Account specific = cold.
Thanks OP.
I don't think it's only for your first booking with them. On my nectar it says "+500 points
when you make your next booking with LNER". Also showing 500 points for Virgin Trains. I've done this multiple times in the past, buying the cheapest child fares (e.g. £1.20). Good way to build nectar points for double up events.

A couple times a year Sainsburys double the value of nectar points, so 500 points = £5. Next one should be November.

Mine is showing as 1000 points for Virgin Trains but minimum spend is £8. Will make £2 if I double up the points, otherwise making a loss of £1

Not really worth it then. Mine just says 500 points, no mention of minimum fare.
OP, thanks for the example you provided: child's single ticket from Hull to Brough for £1. I've tried to book that but it's showing as a Northern train, not LNER. The terms state that "Bookings must be for travel on an LNER service" so this would not be valid?
Says points will be added within 28 days of these offers expiring, so will probably not be added to your account until after the expected double up event?

Possibly, depending on the date of the double up and the points may be added earlier. But you'll still have them for the next one.

I have these offers to. Sorry to sound dumb but it says book for Virgin West Coast mainline services. Is that any service on the Virgin website?

Hmmm, good question. To be honest I have no knowledge of the train services up north. I only went for that route as it mentions both places on the interactive map

I think LNER replaced Virgin East Coast services about 2 years ago. possibly they have not updated the wording of it on their website

i wouldnt bank on getting points.this used to be a good way of building points but the last few promos the points have not been added so have to chase with nectar.you have to book a virgin/lner journey not just any ticket on their website.last time i chased points nectar said kids tickets didnt count but it doesnt say that in the t&c.
Was gonna do this but backed out when saw the LNER / childs ticket loopholes. Nectar dont sound trustworthy either

I've never had one of these not pay out, but I've made sure the tickets bought were on the right service.
Normally it takes awhile, upto 28 days (after the last date of the promotion) for the bonus to display on your statement.

The previous franchise on this line was Virgin Train East Coast, and their pay out rate was really bad. I often had to contact their customer service with screenshots about my missing bonus points.

Since LNER took over last year I haven't had any missing bonus points so far, so I would say LNER is pretty reliable (compare to Virgin Train East Coast)

If in doubt, take a screenshot of the offer terms and condition page (with the dates) and keep it for reference.

Make sure you book via LNER website and on LNER a service (it will display LNER in red font), not any other services......

The £1 ticket mentioned in the first post is not valid as it is not via LNER service.

Also I cannot seem to find this 500 points offer in my account, so I assume this is account specific...

In the past they did it twice a year, but last year they only did one and I fear that like Tesco they may stop doing these double up promos altogether. Nothing announced yet for this year but based on last year we should hear something in the next week or two. Also worth mentioning that there are restrictions on which departments within Sainsburys you can use your double up vouchers. Examples from last year:
sainsburys.co.uk/sho…ers
The rules change every time about the amounts you can double up.
Too much effort for a £1.50. Good spot. I'll pass.
