I chanced upon this on the hpcashback website. Until this Sunday (09/10/16), there is £500 cashback on this particular model. It says £200 on the page, but have a look at this on the hpcashback site: hpcashback.com/gb/…ing

I called to verify with HP, who said the £500 cashback was correct! Seems like a fantastic price for a premium laptop. I personally love the styling of the laptop, but don't know enough to say if there is better for £700. Here are some deets:

HP Spectre Pro 13 G1 - Core i5 6200U / 2.3 GHz - Win 10 Pro 64-bit - 8 GB RAM - 256 GB SSD NVM Express (NVMe) - 13.3" 1920 x 1080 ( Full HD ) - HD Graphics 520 - 802.11ac, Bluetooth

Comes with 3 year Next Business Day Onsite warranty from HP.

Quidco 2% for HP I think.

Shame it doesn't have sli 1080 cards in there or I'd be all over this.....

My preference would be for the Dell XPS 13 however I'm fairly sure this is cheaper though not checked prices lately.

Cashback information is very messy, it says £200 and £500 for the same product. In terms and condition is clearly says that product purchased from store.hp.com are excluded:

1.The HP Cashback promotion is valid on new purchases of HP qualifying products made during the promotional period. The cashback rewards may vary by the qualifying product purchased. The qualifying products, rewards and promotional periods are detailed on the Qualifying Products page on this website. Products purchased from store.hp.com/uk do not qualify for this promotion.

Did one of the recent HP trade in/cash back offers and they "bumped" me on the cashback! (got the trade in price of old puter, they said I never registered when I did. Bit of a con imho. TAKE SCREENSHOTS!!

I've done a trade up before with no problems. Still took screenshots and the name of the guy I was talking to to verify what was said to me.

Even if the discount works not sure this is such an amazing deal. You can get the Lenovo Yoga 710 for £699 on Amazon, very similar spec except much better looking plus a tablet/laptop combo.

Surely if the cash back doesn't work then you may as well buy a Macbook Air! Same specs for under £850 and it will be worth something in 3 years time.

If you have ever seen one of these i person, you would know that this is one of the best looking laptops out there, and aesthetically - just wow!

Or you might as well get something decent.

If I remember correctly this doesn't play nice with other USB-C or Thunderbolt kit, like the HP charger that comes with it does something above and beyond to identify itself as an HP device so the two work together. Plug in say an LG USB-C monitor that's meant to charge the laptop and pass video over that port simultaneously and you get video output but the monitor doesn't charge the laptop.

Breaking standards like this makes it a no-go. Buy an XPS 13 instead.

Well I think someone has already pointed out a valid alternative might be something like the Lenovo Yoga that can also double as a tablet rather than the Air with it's low resolution screen that costs more.

The laptop in the deal is £1199, a MacBook Air linked is cheaper. If screen resolution is an issue then this MacBook Pro https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00UNXGZQM/ref=pd_sim_147_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=R2BCNGBK3SPYH1KW68G6&th=1
is still cheaper and is better spec.

I think my point was missed a little. The point I was making was an Apple product will be worth probably twice what this will be in 3 years time so the value of the product really depends on what you intend to do with it. If you are buying a laptop for a 3 year uni course and will sell it afterwards then this is not a good deal as the laptop in the deal will be worth hardly anything. I am not saying Apple is not overpriced but it works both ways, when selling.

EDIT:

So it's genuine. Here's the official reply I got:

Good Afternoon,
Thank you for your recent phone call.

As discussed in our recent conversation, I had sent this across to my project manager to be confirmed.

She confirmed the following information: Purchases made 3rd Oct – 9th Oct will qualify for a £500 reward.

Whereas, if the purchase date was any other date than the dates mentioned above, the reward will be £500.

We are sorry for any confusion that this has caused.

If you require further support in the meantime, do not hesitate to contact us.

Glad they managed to clear that up then : )

it seems hp has cut the offer now, before the offer ends...

Those waiting for the new macbook 2016 Oct release, given the latest US Exchange you can expect the new Macbook Pro later this month to have a 20% price increase over current models.

Also, you can pretty much guarantee there won't be Windows+Linux Drivers on release for the proprietary touchid / oled function key strip, making these additions as useful as a chocolate teapot if you dual boot your macbook (as I do). It's just more stuff to lock you into macOS, but as long as you realise this, that's fine.

Guaranteed to be less upgradeable, and more sealed up than the last model too.

So does anyone know if purchases from the HP store are exampt or not? I can't see where else sells this model (similar specs but different models numbers which means the cashback would not be honoured). Ta.
