How are these Samsung drives compared to Seagate?

MUCH more reliable - in my opinion anyway....

I build PC's and although seagate used to be ultra reliable, the quality since their amalgamation with Maxtor has been poor.

I'd rate IBM as worst, followed by Maxtor, Seagate, Western Digital then Samsung.

I ONLY build with Samsungs now and the failure rate has come right down.

Would you please edit the title to show the price inclusive of postage and the retailers name.

Aria have some pretty good SuperSpecial deals so if you combined this with another deal the postage would be more reasonable.

Samsung are typically a good balance of low price, decent performance, low noise and low heat and usually get my vote; I upgraded from a 500GB to 750GB Samsung last week.

Great drive and great buy. I ordered one to upgrade a friend's PC from Scan last week when it was a daily special (I have free P&P) at £52.30.

One finesse once you get the drive. Depending on what you are using it for you MAY want to tailor its AUDIO settings via Samsung's proprietary management software (download from their website), eg if using in some PVR application or a MCE PC you may want quietest possible drive operating at a SLIGHT tradeoff against performance or vice versa if you are a speed demon. (As this like most deals is just typically for an OEM DRIVE you won't get any documentation describing about all this and is worth thinking about.)

These hdds are loud!, i have one. so loud!

Maybe you have a bad one.

I have one in an external enclosure and it's as quiet as a mouse, an optical one!

Banned

Not bad deal, but i suppose you can get £80 external one from maplins I think when I was down my maplin store

How are these Samsung drives compared to Seagate?

There's no comparison. Seagate are vastly more reliable than Samsung IME.

Seagate are amongst if not the worst when it comes to reliability

I'm running on a seagate harddrive that's easily going on 6 years old now, has been used daily since purchase, and it's still going strong. *fingers crossed*

Disappointed to hear the new ones don't sound as reliable.. shame.

If you want to compare with years ago, yes, you would be correct. Things … If you want to compare with years ago, yes, you would be correct. Things have changed.

That's not my experience. Mind you, for every person who recommends a particular drive you can find another with the completely opposite view - it's always been that way!

ah its loud, when searching, im not talking serously loud but still louder than my 750gb f1 drive

Does anyone know if this hard drive is any good as a replacement for the one in my sky plus box?;-)

Just checked and they have 11 in stock at the posted price - not expired today.
