And people criticise me for my health and safety method, or lack thereof. Love to see that drill bit stall

A mate once took a photo of me using an angle grinder. Pretty scary stuff (from memory, one handed, no guard, work piece held in the other hand...). But then i'm the loon who cut a half full petrol tank off a car with said angle grinder :?

My only faux pas like that was with a table router.

I slowly moved the piece (guitar body) up to the bit and the template shifted and gave the bit a nice healthy bite of mahogany.

Threw it clear across the room!

Never did it again though!

I bought a bench drill few years ago from Aldi - this looks to be the exact same model.
Great price but I couldn't recomend it. I found there was just too much play in the table - allowing the part to move under the drill and even after lubricating the vertical control was 'jumpy' not allowing you to drill smoothly.
I'd lost my receipt so couldn't return it, but Aldi are usually good on their returns and will give your money back with no quibble so you can always buy one and see if you like it.

picked up mine today.

no problems works fine not tried drilling steel this is a lightweight drill and one cannot expect to have pinpoint accuracy. yer pays yer money yer gets yer quality.

This drill has 500watt motor. comparable drills from machine mart only have 200watt motors and this has 3year warranty.

thks for info went and got mine this afternoon and just assembled it and drilled a perfect hole thru hardwood....only quibble is you have to take the top off and move the belts to change the speed....but its cheap and cheerful..
they also had router tables £24.99 and separate routers
band saws 3in depth £49.95 hefty piece of kit says its a 2 man lift at 36kgm
belt sander
grinder wheel and belt sander £19.95 plus other bits

Just to be pedantic, the pillar would stop the workpiece spinning before any real damage got done..!

As "value" priced pillar drills go, this one certainly appears to be one of the better ones!
Duly hotted up a bit!

Good price - reminds me of my metalwork lessons at school (many years ago).

If similar to the one I got a couple of years ago then there wouldn't be enough torque from the motor and/or the belt would slip before doing any damage..
