Usenet is still incredible, it will almost certainly saturate whatever connection you have, I DL at 45MB/sec (not Mb) on a 350mb line. Searching is very easy and once all setup using Sonarr and Radarr, all content just magically appears when it’s available, without any searching or faff.

My friend let me use his account to see what it was like these days, I enjoyed the nostalgia of watching the par2 file do it's thing but within 30 minutes of getting a file someone had taken remote access over my pc and that my last ever go with usenet lol

I've used Usenet for nearly 30 years and never had anything like that.

Anyone used this before
Newsgroups are not what they used to be
I wonder what the retention is like.

I use them for fills because giganews has become very poor. NewsDemon and newsgroups are pretty good.
This just a VPN?

Use a revolut disposable virtual card
Back in the day when NTL cable was my ISP and I had 10 mbps broadband I remember I would used to marvel at the way downloading from usenet would max out my connection. Those were the days.

I gave up on newsnet many years ago. Used to enjoy maxing out my Virgin connection, but so many incomplete files it was just as quick to use VPN and bittorrent

"Nearly", being the operative word. Certainly early 90s.
Blimey stopped using Usenet several years ago now but it used to be great. Things got a lot trickier to find tho once filenames started to be scrambled etc
Just need a good nzb search engine that's not locked or turned off new accounts.

Same for me, I recall paying monthly and also paying for the search engines, 1 by 1 they where closed and it became more difficult to search for the files you wanted, It is easy now as you say with a VPN and BitTorrent, of course when downloading any files one has to be careful.
If you've already got a account just email them and theyl change it for you

Prior to this instance I'd used it for 10 year issue free myself, but it reminded me of just how many trojans and anti virus warnings I used to get while on it.
