Thanks Kassy2005

This is at this price every other month. I bought one a while back at this price only to realise the temperature control was dreadful. Avoid in my opinion.

I bought one a while back to mod my xbox360 controller and it was excellent. For a tenner you cant grumble at all. Never had any issues or problems with it yet.

Do not use this to mod a games console.

i bought this when it was on offer, at £4.99 it was APPAULING. The tip was not hot enough to melt my solder and the temperature gauge was so unaccurate so it was basically rendered useless. I sold on ebay for £10

i suppose it depends on what your soldering skills are like, i removed and replaced a broken bios chip with this iron and it did the job great.
but then im sad as i have got ten years of soldering experience behind me lol

i did, and never soldered before:thumbsup:

i cant understand why this got this hot i bought this last year at this price when the son snapped my £60 Weller its the worst iron Ive ever used the temp control is **** the tips **** all in all its **** for people to vote this hot they must not know anything about soldering irons or they are thick why do you think this is the price it is?

I had no choice when i bought one as i was doing something when the lad broke mine and with maplin 10 seconds away i had no choice but when id finished it was thrown in the box in the cupboard avoid this junk at all costs and if your using this to mod consoles your very lucky your console still works you should use a low power iron with a small tip.

agreed

These are awful!
Money better spent elsewhere!

For £9.99, you get a 50w soldering iron, with a neat stand to put your iron safely in when it is hot, plus a sponge. At this level, it is good value, when compared to other entry level irons, which are more expensive, less powerful and have no stand. However, if you want a proper soldering station, this is not it, nor could it be for £9.99.

The information sheet provided, advises on the exact temperatures required for different soldering applications. However, the stations control dial shows only the settings 'off' and 'max' and does not show any tremperatures, so that is not much use. In any case, the temperature guide is for leaded solder, which Maplins do not stock. I found that the maximum setting was required for soldering. Desoldering was impossible because, even on the maximum setting, the iron was not capable of melting solder through desoldering tape.
