Yes. I have the Technika Freeview HD box (without hard disk). In fact, I bought a refurb. It works fine. Why not?

A lot of Technika stuff is rebadged, these boxes are made by a company called Netgem. I’ve been playing with my box for a few days and its excellent, despite having a crap Arial it picks up every channel including the HD ones. Seems to be reasonably reliable too.

Doesnt seem like a bad deal...voted hot

cool, got one this time. £52 is a reasonable price to pay to see if HD freeview will work with my ariel, and the PVR function is a great bonus

Grade c . Not sure I like the sound of that.

as long as it works, the scratches don't bother me as it'll get stuck between a pile of other hardware, and i usually watch the screen instead of the boxes that feed the screen.

Just taken delivery of the previously posted (not grade C) version. The box itself works really well on HD and has a better picture on SD than a Hitachi TV I have. You are not going to miss Fetch TV, and you can still get BBC iplayer on 222 - also a good picture. Not tried recording yet but for this price it's a bargain.

for every refurbished box there's a person who has been disappointed and had to bring it back for a refund.

A lot of these were returned early doors as the early firmware was crap, but current firmware is fine. Best thing for me is the wireless internet connection which allows you to stream movies from your pc.

cool. i have streamers in both rooms and don't need/use iplayer type stuff, but pc's in both rooms connect to tv's as well as monitors, so it's just the HD freeview and recording that i want, and 2 channel recording is pretty essential as guaranteed whenever there is anything i do want to record there is something else on the other side at the same time. my humax is only about 160gb as an SD pvr so the 320gb for HD should be fine

got one - poor NAS streaming - jumps - and then switch back to TV you have to restart the box because buffer is stuffed.
Wifi intemittent too - TBH quite an unreliable box overall... still looking into hacked firmware to allow older functions to operate (SkyGo??!!) - persisting, but getting drained now... wishing i had got the Apple TV or Android ICS from Futeko...

Come this morning , up and running in 10 minutes
To me this box is brand new , yes there is a mark on the top of the box but i think its the manufacturing of the box.
best bits so far connected to WI-Fi tried the BBC i player works great .
nice box of tricks so far.

i got mine yesterday and likewise in 10 mins had it working. the box looked like it had been around a bit but inside apart from some minor marking on the top it looked new i've sat my monitor on top so can't see it anyways, if it wasn't under the monitor it would be somewhere else you couldn't see

i just had a bit of a play with it and the functions, there are only 4 HD channels, but main channels like bbc/itv/c4, and the HD pic was impressive. not only that but compared to my humax via scart, the pic was miles better via hdmi and upscaled so even the SD stuff looks better. some minor things missing that the humax had, such as the 30 sec skip forward/back buttons for skipping channels, you have to fast forward instead. setting wifi was simple too, i got iplayer working and it has other internet telly stuff too

so a bargain for £50

googling 8320HD gives you a few websites with tips and tricks etc

Got my C grade Technika today. Apart from some marks on the external box, it looked brand new. Probably being sold cheap as the Fetch TV facility is not available. Wifi, iplayer, HD streaming and picture all great.

I bought 2 of these, and have only just got round to trying 1 of them. Was acting very oddly when I first tried it, every few minutes it was turning off by itself, but formatted the hard drive and since it seems OK. HD picture really impressive, concerned about whether the bugs will be too much to put up with.

It amazes me how these things are released with so many flaws, its like a painter not painting down to the skirting or an electrician not connecting all the lights up. Bizarre.

thanks for this, with just a quick flick through i found a couple of interesting bits i didn't know, such as you can skip through ad's without using fast forward by using the arrow keys (my humax had seperate buttons for that)

i did notice something odd last night when i was recording one show i had series linked, but just watching it live, then another recording started part way through and the channel i was watching changed to the other channel for the second recording. i changed back and it then changed again to the other channel. a few button presses and that stopped. so i'm not sure what that's about

one other thing, ITV HD doesn't broadcast in the mornings for daybreak, the only time i watch ITV normally

also the shutdown, standby thing is confusing. my humax just shutdown when i pressed off, and the lights on the front were clear, and it could record in standby, but this short press/long press for off and standby is confusing. it's still early days so maybe i'll get used to it

Got mine yesterday, as above few scuffs on the top but functions just the same. Can't fault it at the moment, its done everything I've asked it to and I'm still learning what it can do. A few bits of functionality missing that would be the icing on the cake, but for £50 its a pretty good bargain. I've had no issues with the software, it came with the latest out of the box. Now looking forward to see whether ShopTo (who bought FetchTv last month) will continue to improve the offering.

Yeah had my box a few days now , tried all the bits and bobs , the only thing i seem to have a problem with is
after you record a program to the had drive and want to export it to an external hard or usb stick,
tried it three tine now. twice it said you cant do it. the last it did so i thought it came out as an Mp3 file.
Any idea guys.

I never bother exporting recordings to a USB drive but I do over the network and at times find it quicker than USB. Is the recording from one of the HD channels? If so you’ll need to downgrade your firmware to 4.7.48-19. later revisions have this option disabled for copyright reasons.

Yes, find out the IP address of your box in the menu, then enter it into a browser. This will show the recordings on your box for which you can save to your computer, etc. Like freakstyler says though, this only works with SD content unless you downgrade your firmware.

where do you get the downgraded firmware, and what will you loose by downgrading?

and how do you get the iphone app to register the box if fetch is down?

Thanks guys, great blog here http://8320hd.blogspot.co.uk/p/latest-firmware.html
firmware now 48.05.02 going to have a mess now .

A lot of the earlier versions had issues with the remote repeating itself and general glitches but some people say it was down to using online features like the defunct fetch service. Nothing stopping you downgrading to archive HD stuff and then updating back to the current version after you’ve transferred the HD stuff.

Hello,
What do you mean by that?
Mine got a strange ****, the first start of the day it doesn't show the picture? The sound yes but not the picture, It need to be turned on and off few times then it is perfect.
I wonder if its this long/ short press on the on/off button?
Cheers

Just set mine up and I only get the TV list when I press 222 not iPlayer.

Got mine yesterday and am very impressed so far - best value for £50 I can remember in a long time! Picture is great, EPG is better than my new Panasonic TV (we can now see the TV program underneath when looking at the guide now) and menus / remote all easy to use.

The only complaint I've got is that it seems slightly noisier than my old Humax 9150 - does everyone else get a quiet whining fan or HDD noise from theirs?

yeah it is noisy. a lot noisier than my humax. it's very noticeable

Can anyone help? Mine only seems to want to record one channel at once for some reason, software version is 4.8.03-01.

The iplayer function accessed by selecting channel 222 has stopped working.

Just a problem for me, or has anyone else suddenly developed this issue?

Have you tried the info in post 571 of the link below..

My problem was fixed by updating to firmware 4.8.05-02, having loaded the new software i then did a long press on the remote on/off button.

Stopped working for me too - unfortunately it looks like the I-player features been disabled according to the thread on avforums.

Looks like somebody's found a workaround - for now anyway :-)
