Anyone on AM4 that doesn't already have a 5000 series AMD CPU should be upgrading to this. There is no reason to upgrade to the 7000 or 13000 CPUs, this will be the best bang for your buck. The other upgrade worth doing is better DDR4 as Risen responds really well to that. I recommend this if you're on a budget and do not want to touch it... amazon.co.uk/dp/…-21 If you've got 4 slots then you can always buy two more later for 32GB, however nothing needs more than 16GB unless you're streaming. You can always go for more expensive sticks like 16GB sticks if you have only two slots but they're super hard to find.

I would say it depends on need. It used to be the case that the 5800x was the CPU no one wanted (5600x was perfect for gaming, and the CC's all bought 5900/5950). The 5700x didnt make it any easier since it was cheaper and only slightly underclocked.

However, Triple the L3 cache on the 3D model means that its a different chip than the stock 5800x, and the stats prove it.
For a budget build, I would actually go 5600 (which can be found around 140). This 3D chip is a great "Last hurrah" to make those with AM4 setups get a longer upgrade cycle

That was originally my target, but the price of AM5 platforms has kept the pricing on higher end AM4 chips quite strong.
I may jump at this price.

I bought this over Black Friday from AWD-IT. It's a great processor, almost doubled my frames from my Ryzen 5 3600. Well worth it at this price.

Exactly, plus hassle with having to find/use a commission free payment card or work around the fact that it tries not to deliver to the UK (At least the 5800x3D I looked up on there refused to)

Down to £339 now if that floats your boat. I think it will come down further, the new version of this chip is rumoured to be announced at CES in Jan. I'm gonna hold out a bit longer.

Worth me upgrading from a 3700x or shall I just wait a year or so and go AM5? Can’t say I’m noticing bad performance - mainly play single player games and I’m gaming happily at 60fps with a lowly 3060ti at high settings in 1440p
I have a 4K 165hz monitor though so shortly I’d like to get a 3080 or better and a better CPU

Pc components are way overpriced right now especially GPU's. I'm expecting them to come down quite a bit next year. I would personally wait. Nvidia has cut the price of the 4080 as it's not selling. AMD is launching 7000 series GPUS and the AM5 platform is overpriced and isn't selling all too well. The new X3D cpu will also be unveiled at CES.

I believe that's an AM4 mobo? would this be a wise upgrade?

ideally playing at 2K with approx 100FPS

Hi tech wizards, would this be a good upgrade for my system,
It's quite a mismatch of upgraded parts now I'm not sure what's severely lacking and whether I should just wait to start a new AM5 build keeping my 3070ti?

Personally, I wpuld drop a 5600x in that board, once I have confirmed that its supported in thsir bios (it will physically fit)

Tempted, but I've undervolted my 5600X by -30 points which is -150mV and I've overclocked it to 4.85GHz and it's running at like 50W max and 75W in benchmarks.

I just bought one at £349.99 and seeing prices £20/30 below that but those vendors our there with the Uncharted game bundle are the ones selling proper official UK warranty stock - just saying. Most of the other who dont include the game (which im going to give away anyway ) are "grey" / imports etc. Up to you.

R5 2600 Tomohawk b450 RX 580 here. So if I get this, just now, would it be a lasting upgrade worth getting on the principal that next upgrade would be a decent GPU sometime in the next 6 months ?. I have a Battlefield 2042 code from a Currys WD750 deal which I think won't be worth installing on my puny rig as it stands. (2042 going cheap if anyone wants it)
I should have about £350 come summer for a reasonable card. Many thanks for any advice. (edited)

Yes, but in reality any 5xxx CPU would be a big jump. The 5600x is around 220 at the moment and would be perfect.

Bear in mind your mobo (a B450 one) is only PCIe Gen3 I believe, which may slightly. Bottleneck modern cards.
