Found 12th Apr 2014
A mate of mine informed me yesterday that Austins (Pimms) is back in ALDI and is £5.99 a bottle. They bring it out every spring/summer but it is usually only the 70cl bottle for this price. Good time to stock up for summer !! The website is showing £5.99 for 70cl but instore they are 1L. Found in Bolton and Chorley store's so far.

This stuff is ace. Can't tell the difference in taste to the genuine pimms.

This stuff is lovely especially if you put glug of brandy in it

so if, I have this right

150ml Austins
300ml Lemonade

but can anyone confirm

how many strawberries?
how big a bunch of mint leaves?
How many cubes of ice?

It's £4.19 for a 70cl bottle in Derby

So last year I did a lot of testing with these alternatives, and generally, they're not all that bad. From the alternatives to Pimms, you have:

Sainsburys - Pitchers
Aldi - Austins
Asda - Players Punch

Austins is red vermouth (wine) based rather than gin based like the original Pimms. It is noticeably different to Pimms, however by adding a dash of gin and Cointreau to it makes a big difference. After 2 or 3 glasses however, you won't notice much difference.

There's certainly no replacement for Pimms, and when it's £10 a litre in the summer it's certainly worth buying. But at £6 for a litre, if you've got something to top it up with, Austins is definitely worth a punt!

Lidl "version" is also good. Jeeves. Last year was £5.99/litre

Cheers for the info I just popped to aldi and bought 2 bottles. I will try 1 tonight 1 part Austins to 2 part lemonade and add some Strawberry's and a little cucumber.
