Q&A

What is 4G Home Broadband?

4G Home Broadband is internet that travels through the airwaves, just like the internet your mobile phone uses. You can set up home wireless Broadband in your home using a 4G hub. Simply plug your hub in and you’re ready to get online

What is 5G Home Broadband?

5G is the next generation of wireless technology and we're building the UK's fastest 5G network with more 5G spectrum than anyone else. That means way more data, moving way faster. Sooo much faster. And if it's not Three, it's not real 5G. Our 5G Broadband is going to mean laters lag and hello turbo downloads, even when the family's streaming, gaming and tweeting all at the same time.

Will 5G replace Home Broadband?

It’s going to be a game changer. When you get a 5G hub, you just plug in and you’ll get incredible speeds that’ll give traditional fibre and cable providers a run for their money. While others wait for appointments, engineers and fiddle with cables, you’ll be streaming 4K in one room, while your mates game in another, while you're streaming your favourite tunes, uploading selfies and ordering take out.

Can I get a Home Broadband deal without a landline?

Home Broadband deals from Three are different – you don’t need a landline or fibre optic cable to get connected. Our wireless Broadband uses our signal network. All you need is a plug socket and a 4G or 5G signal. Then just follow the instructions to set up your hub and you're good to go.

You can use your hub anywhere you can get a 4G or 5G signal, upstairs, downstairs, even outside in the shed. All you have to do is plug it in.

Does Home Broadband need to be installed?

There's no installation when you choose a Home Broadband deal for your home. You only have to plug your wireless Broadband hub in and follow the instructions in our user guide. Speeds can vary depending on where you use your hub, but our user guide will help you get the best speeds in any location. We also offer next working day delivery too, so you can get connected as soon as possible.

Can I get Home Broadband without paying line rental?

Because no phone line or cable is necessary to get 4G Broadband or 5G Broadband from Three, there’s no line rental to pay.

Is there a Home Broadband set-up fee, or any other fees to pay?
There’s no set up fee to pay when you sign up to one of our home wireless Broadband plans. If you choose a 24 month plan, there’s only your Pay Monthly charge to pay. If you choose a rolling monthly plan, you’ll be asked to pay a one-off upfront fee as part of your first bill.

Just a reminder that if you’re on our 5G service the broadband hub remains the property of Three Broadband. It will need to be returned when your contract ends to avoid any additional charges being made to your account.

Great.. if you actually have a signal
If your in the area the you'll get maybe 100-200 download, but only 20 upload. Also if your out of the area the nothing since it's not on three's mobile network and SIM is not recognised.

£29 is way too expensive! There are normally offers on unlimited 24 month contracts doing the rounds for £20 or possibly less and in the mean time, just go with a smarty unlimited sim on a rolling 30 day contract and buy a 4g router - unless you're an early adopter who always likes to pay through the nose to say they're the first to have something
I use a smarty sim in a B525 router I get 40mb down and 25 up (average) Very good for the price and also very dependant on the cell connection you have

I was getting up to 100Mbit on 4G device, But I'm living close to base station and now it probably will be slower once more people using mobile internet from homes.

My apologies, just trying to give other people options.

However, anyone can take out the linked deal, just enter you mobile number (doesn't have to be three) and can proceed to checkout, thanks

Three will check, I don't know if things will slip through but they have advised previously that checks are undertaken on these offers. Appreciate you helping with options though

Fair enough, I've posted 3 of those deals in the past and have yet to have one person say they were unable to get it, but appreciate the heads up nonetheless
Three have become bit of a joke lately. They claimed 5g would be available on major cities across the country yet when you check the network coverage map it's pathetic. Less than a football pitch size across a city with a population over 1 million? Yeh nice one three.
I agree.... The service is flaky at best. When you call to complain, they always say that work is being carried out on your nearest mast and it will be fixed in approx 4 weeks! When you ring in 4 weeks time, you get told exactly the same!

I cant believe how thay can get away with charging for a non existant service.. As you are in a contract, they know theh have you over a barrel!
Vast majority of UK will not get 5G for next 12-18 months if your outside one of the major cities or towns with a population below 100,000.
Could be worth getting a standard 4G router from eBay and using Smarty/Superdrug Mobile who are both owned by Three and just paying £20 a month on a 30 day rolling pay as you go service to get unlimited data.
Also with Superdrug Mobile when signing up and use their reward card, they credit you with £20 points to use in store.
Speeds do fluctuate a bit l, but getting around 15-30mb.

As far as I am aware, Three and nearly all mobile home broadband services do not have to give you a guaranteed minimum speed like fixed line broadband providers.
(As long as they provide you with an internet connection they're fulfilling their part of any contract!)

I’ve got a 24gb data sim from three in my ipad, comes with a number attached so should work.
Or a 3 2 1 sim off eBay with £10 credit should work fine. To test download speed etc and then classes you as a customer.
Found one on eBay for £5.18 143407465428
"Up to 25 devices simultaneous users/devices"

If that's total devices, not just wifi devices, it's a bit low!
The headline here is the 5g router which comes with the plan. it seems to be selling for £400 on Amazon

The ping is brilliant that's most important. I just wish three would have been honest and said it's not likely to be in your area even though you live in one of the first cities. Only reason I upgraded my phone was to use 5g but then I check their map and it's virtually none existent.

Literally about 1000 people must be able to make use of it in my city.

How do they connect 5g in your area? Is it like a lamp post antenna or something?

Fixed that for you.
Don't do it! Despite 3s assurance that they don't throttle data, in my experience they 100% DO THROTTLE DATA.
I've been on the all you can eat data for about 6 months, I have an external 4G aerial on top of my 3 storey house, so full signal and I find I cant reliably watch NOWTV on weeknights between 6-8 and weekend mornings.

DONT DO IT!
It would've been better, if it was 30 days rolling contract
Be prepared to be disappointed

Too many customers feel the same...

With 3 it’s a 12 month contract, I presume the router is yours at the end of contract
I can’t see how they will get the router off me if I have finished the terms

They aren’t going to give you a £400 5g router on a 30 day contract.
