Hi , do you think I can use it in the kitchen above toaster and kettle?

Only above the George Forman i'm afraid.

no power supply, no attachments to go around corners, i would think the Lidl one has been thoroughly tested as well for electrical safety

Yeah just giving people a cheaper alternative.

I’m sure the Lidl one is far superior but some folks might not be near a Lidl.

Is there installation instructions?
Bought a shorter one last time it was on sale and it's very good. I was a little concerned about the safety of these but it doesn't get hot at all even if left on for a day at a time.

Only issue ive had is if you hang a long strip up the adhesive starts to give way at the corners...the weight of the drooping part pulls more of it down til it falls off. I fixed this with a dab of superglue at both ends ...no more problems. I was sticking mine to an untreated pine slat under a bed .. it might stick better to a glossy surface like the underside of a kitchen cabinet.

I've had the 3 meter one from lidl £7.99. Lights are amazing but only downfall is the sticky back from it is rubbish.
Anyone know if you add 2 of these together to extend I need 8 metres of continuous length? Thanks

I'm after these but will need to extend them between kitchen units, I planned to use cat5/6 but googling seems to show mixed opinions if its safe to do?

I'd need more than 5m too and was going to buy 2 packs then hopefully 1 remote would turn both on.

I used this or similar link
to extend led wiring. I decided not to use cat 5e or 6 cable.

A good trick is to take the cable to both ends of the led strip, this way you don't get a dimmer leds at the end of a long chain and a bad connection is less likly.

RGBW cable link (that 5 wires rather than 4)

from memory I dont remember how much thicker the cable are than cat 5. POE power over ethernet is a thing so maybe that why some confusion occurs.
Nothing really unsafe about the Gearbest set, it's only 12v so extremely unlikely to shock you or pose any sort of fire risk. The waterproof type would be better for kitchen use (the type encased in silicone) but nothing wrong with the cheap non-waterproof tape, worst that'll happen assuming it got wet would be corrosion.

Never buy them bundled with adaptors from China (or UK sellers selling kits) as they're usually super cheap with fake safety markings, any 12v power adaptor from an old router or similar over 1.5A should be good for a 5m reel or there's UK sellers on ebay selling branded adaptors from the likes of Delta and Hipro for under a fiver, well worth it if you're planning on a permanent installation.

I've extended hue strip with cat5, been in use over a year without issue.
Just picked up 2 sets in Hull. Need them for a conservatory roof conversion, placed above coving. Quality looks great. They work really well. Thanks for posting!
we have several of the cheaper versions direct from HK/China in the children's bedroom. ours came with everything needed with power pack etc, paid about a fiver and the house hasn't gone up in fumes yet, they been up years
Good price, were £24.99 in NI Lidl a few weeks ago.

I would not have used the power adapters especially in a children's room, I pray to god nothing happens because I doubt very much they have been safety tested x

Is it battery powered if so which ones? As it is not at all clear whether it is battery or mains thanks in advance
I've had a few of the cheap Chinese import ones. They either don't work properly or fail after a short period of time. I would go for the Lidl one.
Anyone looking at one of these for under their kitchen cabinets etc needs to take into account the cost of some decent adhesive tape. The adhesive on these strips is pretty poor. Get some 3m tape ASAP.
3 years this November for the Chinese multi colour led strip lights that surround the telly. On every day and apart from the house burning down and the misses getting electrocuted they've never missed a beat

Voted hot but if you're in no rush then I wouldn't worry about an import, what isn't imported from China these days.

It comes with a dc power supply to plug straight into a 240v mains socket.

big difference between getting a knockoff on Gearbest and Lidl
Does anyone know if the controller that comes with this can be controlled directly by Home Assistant?

Just a quick question regarding your comment above about taking a cable to both ends. Is that by adding a splitter and then having a cable going to each end. In effect making a ring? Thanks.
Unless there was a typo on the label, this was £24.99 in the Lidl at Connswater, Belfast today. I should have taken one to the till to price check...

That's because Connswater is in Ireland. Lidl Ireland operates separately
