These are great I bought something very similar on amazon for my drive a couple of years ago and they are still going strong.

Thanks OP, I have gone for it, bit dubious regards the quality but we will see.

This statement indicates a not well-considered design. "2 sensors: light sensor and sensitive motion sensor, save energy." The light sensor is presumably power-wasteful and not required on a solar-charged item.

It's a good job it tells you what it is on the front. I wasn't sure.

It will be required as you don't want it illuminating in daylight even if motion is detected. The light discharges the battery faster than the solar panel charges it up so, during daylight, you want all the solar power to go to charging up the battery (with no discharging caused by the lights illuminating) so the lights last as long as possible when it's required, when it's dark. Good and necessary design - it would be useless without it. All similar product work the same.

Seriously? It's a solar powered light. If the solar cell isn't charging the battery, there is no ambient light! That is the ambient light sensor and consumes zero power, unlike this design that uses a separate and power-consuming dedicated ambient light sensor that is simply not required.

Here in the UK solar powered garden gadgets are great. They work wonderfully for about a month, then go to landfill.

Seriously. As a design engineer I know it makes sense. They may be using the panel as the light measuring device, but there will be circuitry using that to perform the light sensing function, which is necessary.

(We may just be treating the term 'sensor' differently.)

These are great I bought 5 a year a go and none work now, they leak, I found insects living in most of them and rusty battery pins. Awesome product 5 stars as long as you only want them in the summer and only for about 1-3 months usage.

Guys...we live in England. And you want to but SOLAR-powered lights??? I bought two of these last year and they are both absolutely naff

It is usually nothing to do with the lights but the capacity of the battery used. Solar lights almost always come with the lowest spec rechargeable batteries that don't hold a charge well. Just replace them with a higher capacity more premium brand of rechargeable battery and that is what makes the difference.

Positioning/placement is of course also key.

Bit of a myth that Solar lights don't work in the UK. They work very well if done properly. The 12V battery on my car is even charged by a panel on the car roof. This is the future of cars and their 12V batteries, it will be standard soon.

These lights should work well with a driveway. Have purchased them.

Mine arrived today, ordered on 9th November.

They're a lot smaller than what I was expecting.

Will get them installed this weekend and will update once I've had them on for a few days
