I bought one a couple of weeks ago. I own a 4TB Seagate portable drive that's maybe 4 years old. The Seagate writes at around 120 - 130 MB per second. This drive is around 90 MB sustained. It's read is around 120 MB (edited)

It is this model soldered to the board? or I can get it out? thanks

    Can't get it out.

    BarTech TV
2 years agoThe USB connector is soldered so there's no way to harvest the drive from inside and use it internally.

I’ve had 4 recertified drives in past and 3 have failed quickly , I wouldn’t even use if they were free not worth the overall hassle
    helal94's avatar
I’ve bought 3 and not one has failed on me.

Is this a bitch to return if problems? Pot luck with recertified drive I guess

Register the drive for warranty and as long as the warrnaty is valid, you can RMA it.

Although WD has annoyed me lately - I sent one back mid Dec and only got replacement back this week because they didn't have a matching model to give me. Not that they told me that until I chased them about it......

The last WD rectified drive I bought was knackered from day one, I've bought a lenovo sff 6series PC to replace my full size server because of power consumption the only issue is that my 3.5 wd reds won't fit. So the only option I have is 2 or 3 super expensive 4tb ssds or a couple of these but I don't know if I could trust my media to these drives, it's a big gamble and a big loss if 1 goes down the pan I loose either my movies or my series which would be very hard to replace as I only have a 5tb backup drive as to cover just the TV so I'd loose my movies.

Can you fit bare 2.5" SATA drives into this case?

Last time I ordered this it was left on the Felixstowe dockside by UPS and then returned to WD.

I will try again though, fingers crossed this time

I bought the 4tb last time a deal was on. Had it for a few weeks and I dropped it. That was it totally dead. I know it was my own fault but it's not the first time I dropped a drive but it was the first time one died from it. Puts me off buying another one.

They usually park their heads before they hit the ground. Most portable drives have an accelerometer. I'd send it back

I'm thinking of a couple of these powered by my mini pc to serve my music and movies on jellyfin/Plex.. but then wondering if the energy use would probably be not much better than a plug in 10gb external. Which would be cheaper to buy too.

Would this work for a PS5 or would it require a separate power cable?
    saitama_fan's avatar
Yes to store stuff but you can't play ps5 games from it. You could play ps4 games from it though I assume.

First WD increase price this year

Last year November I bought for 54 etc or similar I think was 59 then i have 5 off

WD Elements SE slower compare to other WD passport etc Because I have 2 TB my passport and it is much quicker write speeds and reads If remember around 30 % faster

I'm using for backup WD Elements SE so speed not really bother but for PS4/PS5 they will be slower for games load etc

I bought My cloud mirror 12 TB for 269 last week I will take out 2 x 6 TB RED HDD and use them in NAS server and Spare HDD 2 x 3 TB from NAS will got to My cloud mirror "Basically swap HDD"

My cloud mirror not bad devices as they turn off HDD complete and using around 6W of power on stand by so good for energy saving

    Where my NAS server 4 bay using 32 W of power constant 24 Hrs x 356 Days = 273 Kw x 0.40 £ = £109 per Year just to have server

same as before, but there was 10% discount,

I've got a couple of the WD Passport 2TB drives for my PS4 and Xbox Series S. I've recently purchased a PS5 and read that the games are bigger sized than those consoles. Do you think a 2TB will be large enough for the PS5?
