had one of these for about 4 years now, recertified, used to use it for when I travelled a lot so that I had the pick of films, TV series etc depending on mood. Solid little piece of kit, swapped the lead for a USB-C one to speed up transfers

    What lead do you use?

Use code EXTRA10 to bring price down to £60.30
    Avatar
Thanks, got it at that price

Good price for 5TB - ordered, thanks.
I’ve had a number of recertified drives from WD and never had any issues over the years - all still going strong.
    Avatar
The last one I bought was brand new. Still in the cellophane wrap.

FYI You can't get the 10% discount for signing up for email on this order. It sends the price up to the standard amount. Ordered though, thanks!

    Try the code EXTRA10 people.

works on all recertified products above 3TB

Good drive. I bought one around a year ago and it’s nearly full so have been shopping around for something bigger. But having looked at the pricing of drives with more storage I think I’d be as well just adding a second one of these.
The ONLY drawback, for me, is it tends to be a little slow, particularly when browsing image files - although this is likely down to me being spoiled with SSDs (edited)

Does anyone know which of the w&d drives are shuckable, wanna launch one in my bt youview box.Tia

    Nope not these

Obi-Wan says: "These are not the drives you are looking for" (edited)

Suitable for xbox one ? Or ssd is more recommended
    Avatar
Should be fine as long as you format to ExFAT. Think the Xbox takes you through the process to ensure correct formatting but not done it myself

Rubbish drives..I had a 2tb one and a 1tb one both lasted just a month over warranty ....warranty is not a problem, only buy if you can afford to loose all that data and don't backup any critical data on these drives...
    Avatar
Luck of the draw unfortunately... all data drivers will fail eventually. If the data is critical just ensure you have more than one copy (RAID array or backup)

Over the years I've had hard drives from lots of different manufacturers and they have been random in their longevity. Some lasting months, some years and some are still going.

Generally the mechanical drives I've had fail have shown warning signs before failure but not always... one advantage of mechanical disc drives.

Be careful of recertified. I think it's used or whatever and then just sorted it out. I'd rather go for a new one. Correct me if I'm wrong

I’ve been using 2 recertified drives on my media server for about 3 years and they have never dropped a beat, everyone always seems to say be wary but I would argue the fail rate is identical as ‘new’ units

I got this and the email of 10% discount, but recertified hmmmm is a chance of getting a nice return one, but a bad return one with staff to lazy to check it properly, it is data loss, time loss, and debating over return process. I have no issues with new portable ones, but never tried used one ie like ebay when the seller said it is new lol . ie 30% off or £30 off idk, pondering. 5tb is lots of data to loss and cry about.

30 day returns. Buy the drive. Run diagnostics on it using something like portion magic etc. This will show you any errors on the drive. If you don't like the result send it back. Pya via Pay pal or a credit card to be on the safe side because you can stop the payment on both if it arrives damaged etc.

TCB £5.51 tracks within the hour. Unfortunately no coupons that I know of.

Looking for a Drive I can dump mine and my wife's photos on from our phones when they become full.
Is this a cheap solution to use?
5TB may last a few years of dumping.
    Avatar
Have you got Amazon prime? Can also backup the photos there with the unlimited storage included

Got 2 great for non important stuff, been running for.... Many years now. (1tb and a 5tb)

Was set on getting an ssd to extend the storage on my PS5 due to the extra load speed, but 5tb of storage is tempting.
  22. Avatar
    Thanks waiting for the 2tb
  23. Avatar
Can this be used for the PS5?

Yeah for playing ps4 games and backing up ps5 games from the internal and nvme drives.

Bought this yesterday for Xbox Series S. Good value compared to anything on Amazon. 5% Quidco.

Hope to do the exact same. Never bought recertified tho so hesitation

Anyone know if this can be set up as cloud storage for mobile devices eg. Phones if connected direct to Virgin hub 5.
How to do it, is it easily done and can you have individual storage areas
    Thanks in advance
    Avatar
Can’t say for certain but I would think unlikely, last time I looked at doing this it wasn’t easily possible as there is no software link and phone software doesn’t support itit natively.

Bought one of these back around June to use on my Xbox. Started going wrong a few months ago and has now stopped working completely. In the process of sending it back. Bit gutted as when working added plenty of space to the Xbox.

Careful not to move or knock the drive when turned on, otherwise bad luck. At least your saves should be ok.
  32. Avatar
Can anyone please explain what is meant by 'recertified'?
