Pretty much as the title says.

I was at my local subway in Swindon earlier and saw this advertised as part of what they're doing for Comic Relief.

I don't know if this is nationwide, but it was on at the other Subways in Swindon. (Confirmed at £1.79 by most members nationwide)

Five Ways in Birmingham its £1.79

£1.79 in Warwickshire too. Can't have it as part of a meal deal though, have to pay for a cookie?!?!
Not amused.....

when i was in earlier 99% sure the sign for it was £2.99... for comic relief too...
could have been for a meal though.

comic relief! more like its the credit crunch and nobody will buy them

im pretty sure... meatball marinaras are one of the worst subways for you health wise... and of my personal taste... one of the worst!

Awesome news. No longer have to wait for Tuesday "Sub of the Day" offer to enjoy meatbally goodness (or badness as it may be!)

Add some chilli sauce and that is one hot deal!!!

Saw this in a subway in Leicester, was £1.79...

Did anyone see that program about the sandwich industry on a few months ago.. ?

A footlong Subway meatball mariana has as much salt as 18 (EIGHTEEN!!!!) bags of ready salted crisps.

for that reason I'm not voting on this one! lol

Chilli sauce, jalapenos, onions and peppers.
Lovely.

If you have a footlong is this at a reduced price too?

Forgive the pun, but the Meatball Marinara is sub-standard compared to the Italian BMT :-D

Congratulations, you have successfully pointed out that Subway is junk food.

It's £1.79 at all the places I've visited, not £1.99

Whoever invented a sandwich made of meatballs must be a comedian ;-)

Sorry lots of things go in a sandwich but meatballs :w00t: noooooooo its just wrong

WELL IN LOVE SUBWAY

Oh no. Its right on sooooooo many levels. Italian BMT is a mighty fine sub but the meatball is still the daddy of the sandwich world.

£1.79. It was advertised on TV. My personal favourite Subway, which aint saying much ...

There's a reason that "Joey" on Friends, loves Meatball Subs.....they're awesome!

Try making them at home, use "Provlone" cheese on them.

Nice.

I tried a meatball mariana once last year. I had food poisoning as a result and have not set foot there since.

I won't vote this cold as it's still a good deal but be warned, those meatballs can sit warm for ages before they're served.

Love Subway (Chicken and Bacon IMO) but cant stand the meatball marinara.

Good deal for those who do - not voting myself on this one.

qualitay!

Its true they can sit for a while and sometimes they are kinda crunchy and dry if theyve been there for ages but its mint when they give you loadsa marinara sauce and you add one line chilli and put loads of jalepenos on!!

Yum Yum!! I promised myself I would stop eating suways this semester... :Out the window:

1 pence from every sandwich goes to Comin Relief...big bucks then

Yes the meatball subs might taste lovely but they're made from hydrogenerated fat (or trans fats) which are terrible for your health. Should be banned really so only eat sparingly!

As mentioned above those meatballs are often kept there in the pot for hours on end so I'd only really recommend buying a meatball sub at a time when the shop is dead busy. Otherwise you might be sick. Either that or the meatballs might be rock hard so hardly worth eating anyway.

They usually ask if you want it a footlong - for the same price, obviously.

Doesn't sound a big deal but they have over 1300 stores in the UK and this is one of the most popular products so when you think of it on that scale and how many thousands are sold each day it is potential big bucks.

I find it quite amazing that they can put that much salt into a sandwich and it not taste salty! They must be working some magic in there.

I like them, I like the meatball sandwich, a rare treat!

1299 stores now as the one near me has just closed due to lack of trade.

Are they still charging 20p for having it toasted as they were a few weeks ago?!

Would explain the £1.79 price.

Is'nt it something like 10 teaspoons of salt in a meatball sub?

And i think its £1.79, it is here and a lot of people are saying it.

Meatball has to be hot anyway, they can't do it cold.

That's probably why they don't have to charge 20p extra. I've heard that if it is heated for the purposes of adding to the taste then it is VATable, which is why Subway now charge for the service when I order my Italian BMT!

That's a discussion for another day anyway! Haha!

no its because they aren't allowed to serve hot and cold at the same price - tax man (they had a sign up in the store)

plus the 20p is included anyway i think - the ham previously was £1.49, now this is £1.79.

anywho, still a great deal

i thought it said "Meatball Marijuana".....still a damn good find.

those meatballs can sit warm for ages before they're served.

The time they sit for (maximum four hours if the store is being run properly) is only revevant to the quality of the product, not food safety. Providing they are kept at the correct temperature, there isn't a risk of food poisoning.

4.7g per 6". It's a high salt product, a treat rather than something to be eaten everyday.

Correct, the Subs on promotion are always done at a single price whether hot/cold or eat in/take away. Make the offers a lot easier to follow! As the Meatballs are a hot product only, they are only ever at one single price on the menu anyway.

The reasons for the price differences on other menu itsem is, as mentioned, VAT. Cold sandwiches do not attract any VAT, but when a sandwich is toasted or heated it is deemed to be hot and therefore subject to the full 15% VAT. Any food eaten in the store is also Subject to VAT, even if it is served cold. Subway tried to fight this off for quite a while, but the high court ruled against us.

The majority (possibly all by now) of stores in the UK now use the new menus, and it is important to note that the majority of prices have actually been reduced. For the most part, your Sub will be at least 20p cheaper than it was a few months ago if you have it cold and to take out, while for toasted and eat-in it will be more or less the same price as before.

For what it's worth, the franchisee makes more money from selling the Sub at the cold/take out price, as the VAT is a lot more than the 20p we charge the customer!

That would explain why it was £1.99 for mine, though oddly enough they were advertising it at that price aswell.

But i'll get it updated now

Hot. I love meatball marinas. Sweetcorn and chilli sauce mmmmmm

I'd sooner they just charged you the one price and absorbed the costs elsewhere like Mc Donalds, BK and KFC do.
