I literally downloaded the app, tapped the 'subscription' option from the menu, clicked 'Have a code?' and entered 'david' and it updates the trial from 7 days to 180. No registration or anything.

Not sure of how long this promotion is on for.

You should see 3 horizontal lines in the top left of the screen. That'll bring up the menu. From the menu select "Subscription". Then at the very bottom there should be Have a code? Select that, then enter in the magical code of "david" and the Trial end date should be updated to November 2014.

Make it appear as if you accessing the internet from country X. This is handy if you want to access online services that are restricted to certain countries.

Any suggestions?

Great, thanks.

This is basically used for Netflix to access us.

Well, you could have a look at Hulu.com, which is a US only streaming service. There are loads of others, as one person also suggested US Netflix, which has a larger library than the UK version (I think).

I have never bothered using VPNs to access such stuff in the past, and doubt I will bother even now, so, sadly, I don't have a list great stuff you can access. Hopefully, some others on here will be able to point you to some good stuff.

The Netflix site just offers a free month on both UK and US sites.

Yes, Netflix uses a subscription based model. It's not about by-passing the Netflix pay wall, it's about getting the opportunity to access the US version of the site and content within.

I think it's a case of if you have a need for this app, then it's great, but if you don't have a need, then it's useless.

At least you should be able to access BBC iPlayer the next time you go abroad.

It works. Thanks

thanks for this. Shame there's no desktop version going free!

It's also useful if you jump on a free wifi hotspot. Gives you a much more secure connection than just being on open wifi.

Normal for a VPN for iPhone, they work by installing a profile on iOS. Not used this specific one on iPhone but I think rather than toggling it on in the app you'll have to toggle the VPN setting in the iPhone settings as that's what other VPN apps or like and just because of the limited permissions of iOS apps.

Using this on my Moto G and it's worked really well, thanks

Unbelievable that two pages of posts and only 2 comments about using it for security, this s the real reason for using a VPN, the using sites abroad is just a bonus.

Assuming you trust the VPN supplier.....

I was thinking of buying a Raspberry Pi and making my own VPN server at home. Anyone else done that successfully?
