Turns out a 6.5l slow cooker is too big for a family of 5 and burns the s**t out of everything you put in it.

We use our 6.5ltr slow cooker for our family of 4 and it's lovely every time. You must either have a duff one of just don't know how to use it properly. (_;)

How can you burn it? I think you may have let it get too dry? You have to keep the fluids topped up to be effective.

I've got this model and it works great . I never make too much and there's loads of us - you can freeze left overs .

I put it on in the morning and went to work, the whole idea of a slow cooker.

I use my slow cooker probably twice a week. Its a godsend when you're on the go and you have a gorgeous meal ready when you get in. Give it a go and start getting your moneys worth!

Paid £16.99 a few weeks ago @ Aldi because it was a bargain at that price - I live alone and I made a lamb casserole/stew with chopped knuckle of lamb and loads of veg - ate some day 1 and day 2 and froze the rest - you can't beat cheap home cooked nutritional and tasty food.

@ £9.99 it's a steal

And if you have problems with it burning..... go search for some common sense and if you find it for sale don't pick the cheap option again.

People like to moan for the sake of it.

I got a JML star chef about five years ago for my christmas from my son (my request) and still haven't used it... I think the problem is that it takes up too much work surface so it's in a cupboard out of sight / mind. I'm moving house next week and fully intend to start using it!

The 6.5 litre slow cooker is MASSIVE. I wasn't joking before when I said you could bathe a new baby in the pot! Don't buy this unless you are a family, and even then, you like to freeze some of the food. I did ribs in mine which were wonderful but quite a lot of ribs lay in the bottom of the pot looking somewhat lonely!

Goodness - so many complaints ...
Yes, it's big. So you can buy multipacks of chicken legs or offcuts etc and it becomes more economical.
Once cooked, freeze the surplus ready for another meal.
Then put it away somewhere!
£9.99 for 6.5L (1.3 gallons) is just awesome. Voted Hot.

I've got a large slow cooker and bought a timer plug for mine as I found I want to set it before work at 7:30am to eat about 7pm - I set the timer to switch on at midday, that way it doesn't overcook.
Still haven't found any UK recipes I really like though.

Yes probably if I was looking at it I'd use it. In fact I was looking for more storage in kitchen the other day and I've just realised that the slow cooker is taking up loads of room so I'm going to move it to the upstairs cupboard right now, thanks for reminding me lol.

This is like someone moaning the radio they bought is too loud!!! Google recipes for slow cookers as you are doing it wrong!

Cracking price, although a bit too large for my needs

The Halogen oven they had on sale a month ago has already been recalled. Sure it's a one off though

I assume so, I've seen these in special buys quite a lot but not at this price. States at the top of leaflet "Hurry, limited stock".

If this is too big for people Ive just bought a 3 litre one in Tesco for same price

I love my slow cooker although I need a new 1 the dial has snapped off

The special deals on Aldis website at this time are for this Thursday the 3rd of December. As far as I am aware, the deals for Thursday the 10th will be online this Thursday/Friday.

So if you cook to the full 6.5L capacity how long does it take too cook say a stew.

I got a large slow cooker a few years back, but she was a lazy so and so, and ended up looking more like a deep fat fryer. I'm sorry to say divorce was the only way to go.

I think this is a good deal regardless if you know how to use it or not, slow cookers are great and can be a great money saving device for anyone's kitchen.

LOL burn anything in a SLOW cooker is pilot error and nothing to do with the size lol

I'll hazard a wild guess and suggest that the crock pot in your slow cooker may actually be touching the metal jacket on the inside of the slow cooker. I've had to take one apart to repair the control switch and discovered that the heating element is a band around the circumference of the inside of the slow cooker. It is no more sophisticated than that; a variation on how a kettle works. That means that in use the hottest point is that mid-point waste-line and the heat spreads throughout the metal lining by convection. It is then meant to heat the air gap between that and the ceramic crock pot. But if the pot touches the metal lining, you will get a hot spot that in the case of mine causes localised burning when you would not expect it. When I use mine, I take extra care to ensure the pot is cradled as accurately as possible in the centre of the metal outer so that it is only touching it at the rim.

Another possibility is that I have never used mine to cook dry food ingredients, even though you are supposed to be able to. I always cook the food in copious liquid; stock, gravy or whatever it might call for.

Perhaps this 'special buy' is limited to a few branches? as I haven't seen it advertised for the Stockport branches, where has the leaflet pictured come from please?

just finished yet another spag bol in ours...we always double up portions...even more economical...freeze half (for lasagne?!), we sre a family of 5 too.. fab price...my husband was sceptical of them...dont be! great for singles, couples, dinner parties and families...can cook so much!

That says reduced special buys, so does that mean only stores that have got residual stick left over from previous times these have been on offer will have these then just to clear them out?, can't imagine stores that have not got any getting sent the stock if that is the case

We use our slow cooker 6 times a week. It is amazing. We have had this size for 5 years and make lots soup /chilli/stew/curry/spag bol/mince /chicken etc etc . We also have a halogen cooker and between the 2 save a fortune and they are both so easy. We turn the normal oven on about 1x a month. Both make being a working mum much easier.

I'm a slow cooker noob. What can you make with them and why do they exist?
