go to www.internetcalls.com or www.voipbuster.com (they are actually the same company)... with them landline calls to the UK are always free provided you have come credit in your account for non free locations

Erm, so after 120 days (less than 4 months) you can't call "free" places for free any more? Plus only 5 hours of free calls per week. Unless UK calls are always free on top of this, I don't see the advantage (well it's standard SIP instead of proprietary skype I guess, but not many people will care about stuff like that).

I'm happy enough now with my BT option 1 (needed for ADSL!) + planet talk (signed up through uswitch.com) no fee free eve/we calls through landline. I get to use my phone for calls without buying PC/router adapters or anything. Skype was useful when I couldn't get my own phone line and had very restrictive internet through uni though.

After 120 days you can 'recharge' your account and have free calls again (unless they'll change promotion, something they frequently do).
As to phone - I agree. Before I switched to NTL (that was one stupid decision, I know) I had dialer, which would automatically route my calls through 1899, 18185 and some other companies, depending on type of call, time and DOW. That was very good, simple to use setup with little to worry about (and almost free).
Now I have VoIP ATA (SIP) and it works OK, using the same phone for both NTL and VoIP calls. But voice quality and service outages sometimes are an issue. As to Skype - it is strictly no-go for me.

After 6 months you can probably do the same with skype, depending on if they change promotion.

Guess it all depends on where/when you're calling, but nearly every call I make is free so I'm happy.

You have to buy a minimum of £10 credit for the Skype deal, but over 6 months that's peanuts.
