2 bay Nas with 2x 3TB hard drives. Seems quite good value for £170 using the promo on the page.

If bt don't cancel the order...I bought a NAS before Christmas...they said they had no stock.

Good price, but don't expect too much performance from a 0.8 ghz processor and only 256meg memory

Isn't it all about disk access speeds on a nas, rather than processing power?

It depends what you're doing with it. More and more people are using a NAS as a home server for Plex, email, cloud sync, torrent downloads and cctv recorders.

This is godamn iLLmatic!!!

You are right but as per post #4, if you want to use it for streaming media to your devices around the home it will struggle with anything more than a couple of HD films at once

It could be worth purchasing just for the disks. It depends what's in the NAS. Can anyone shed some light on the make/model in this unit?

Thanks OP my 1TB is getting full so was looking for a replacement

Ordered, thanks OP

Anyone know if this has power schedule options? i.e set a time when to turn on & off automatically?

As a backup device, this seems reasonable enough *however* bearing mind that this is a 2 disk unit, they will give you 6TB UNPROTECTED storage, or if you're lucky 3TB MIRRORED storage.

That's still an awful lot better than not backing up at all, but don't let this give you a false sense of security

It's no better or worse than any other 2-disk NAS encosure, I wouldn't think of using any less than a 4 disk unit with RAID5. Not voting either way.

These tend not to be very hungry this one is only 19 watts, so less than two standard low-energy light bulbs. - powering on and off will cause thermal cycling, and reduce the lifetime of the product.

Checking the Buffalo specs, appears to be SATA II, no mention of speed or brand, but at a guess and given whole unit consumes (only) 19 watts, my guess is it's concentrating on low power consumption rather than speed.

I know where you're coming from, I used to buy SATA external disks and take them out the cases, until they started shipping them with USB interfaces on the actual controllers!

YES that is available

Seems like a great deal to me

Was just about to buy, but really could have done with USB 3.

Would go with a proper NAS like Asustor or Synology. Can do so much more.

I have been waiting to buy a low priced 2 bay solution for ages, this system will hopefully suit my basic needs and is great value for the money. Just to note, the website was showing less than 10 in stock when I just ordered mine.
Thanks for sharing this deal Gowlande

Ordered - many thanks for posting

Or go with a microserver and do everything.

Is it ok to use this to install games? Im low on space

Still saying two available but when I go to payment says "Your order could not be placed because one or more items in your basket is no longer available to buy.".??? See BT are still are still as unreliable as ever..

Not voting either way - I had no end of problems with this NAS before switching to WD - uploaded over 4TB of data then found that the archaic permissions management prevented me from gaining access to the majority of it. Was a nightmare that I later found out a lot of other LinkStation users were having. Was glad to see the back of it.

yes, seems OOS, couldnt order also

No spinning drive will ever exceed the SATA II spec, so kinda pointless having a SATA III drive in there apart from marketing purposes. More important would be the rotational speed and cache size etc.

Can this be used as a Plex server?

If you're after processing power a full OS and the like, is this not a better choice?

Granted its a miniscule amount of storage in comparison, but its also £50 off (30% cheaper). Yet still gives you the option to add storage as it becomes cheaply available?

OOS

2 in stock now but at 199.99

In their shop it's listed for £199.99, but there's a code (9FH13017) for £30 off - maybe that's how OP reached a final price of £170?

Just checking - this is the NAS drive and is also populated with 2x3Tb Hdds??

Would somebody please advise on how quiet this NAS unit is/isn't?

Price now definitely back to £199.99 . The £30 discount code has gone from the page and now shows 26 in stock!

Ordered mine Saturday evening and order still shows as security check in progress.. I get the feeling that my order is going to get cancelled given that the quantity in stock has gone up - possible mis-price.. we'll see

Life's a bitch and then you die

Mine has arrived. Checked the drives, and I have two 3TB WD Blue hard drives. Would have preferred the WD Reds, but can't complain given the discounted price. So well done BT Shop and thanks OP for posting this deal.
